Shire of Eltham Archives: Series 69, Item 9 This video is of the opening of the new Eltham Library on May 22nd, 1994. It features an introductory look at the new library with the assembled guests with music performed by Eltham High School. A welcome speech is given by Shire President, Cr Pamela Sladden followed by the Hon. Peter Staples, Member for Jagga Jagga. Cr. Robert J. (Bob) Manuell, Chairperson, Eltham Library Redevelopment Special Committee then gives a sometimes humourous analogy of the history of the project's development from conception to delivery with reference to the Year of the International Family (1994). At the end of the speeches there are scenes of guests looking over the library followed by scenes of the Shire President's picnic.VHS Video cassette Converted to MP4 file format 00:28:35; 333MBshire of eltham, video recording, shire of eltham archives, eltham shire council, eltham, panther place, eltham library, eltham high school, cr pamela sladden, hon. peter staples, eltham library redevelopment special committee, year of the international family, shire president's picnic, jagga jagga, cr. bob manuell -

Audio - Sound recording, Interview of Graeme Innes on 'Raising children' DVD, 2007
In 2007, the Prime Minister launched 'Raising children' DVD to be given free to each new parent. 'Raising children: a guide to parenting from birth to 5' contains many resources to help new parents, however the DVD is not audio described nor captioned. Human Rights Commissioner Graeme Innes discusses this lack of access with Stephen Jolley, and the discrepancy in creating a Disability Discrimination Act and having a government issued resource that does not conform to this.1 audio recording of an interview between Stephen Jolley and Graeme Innesstephen jolley, graeme innes -

Slide, Robin Boyd, 1950
Penleigh Boyd, Robin and Patricia Boyd's son, writes “Prior to 1950 Robin, like most other amateur or hobby photographers, took black and white printed photographs. The oldest slides date from 1950 when Robin and Patricia travelled to Europe on Robin’s Robert Haddon Travelling Scholarship.” In 1948 Robin Boyd was awarded ‘joint first place’ in the Robert Haddon competition for his design of Mildura art gallery. The scholarship helped fund their first overseas trip. Robin and Patricia were passengers on the Greek ship “Cyrenia” departing in May 1950, passing through the Suez Canal and landing in Genoa five weeks later. For six months, they travelled extensively throughout Europe (predominantly driving themselves) - France, Italy, United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Spain.Colour slide in a mount. Slide, Robin Boyd, 1956-1957
Robin Boyd developed a close friendship with the founder of the Bauhaus in Weimar Germany, Walter Gropius, who had moved to the USA in the 1930s. Through this connection, Boyd was invited to be the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Bemis Professor at the School in the North American academic year 1956-7. Robin and Patricia Boyd, with their youngest daughter Suzy, were based in Cambridge, Massachusetts for the year. Boyd gave some lectures at MIT and he was also invited to give lectures at many other universities, allowing him to travel widely within the USA, especially on the East Coast. This gave him the opportunity to meet architects like Frank Lloyd Wright, Eero Saarinen, Paul Rudolph and many others, and visit the offices of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, and places like Taliesin and the General Motors Technical Center Detroit. On the way home, the Boyds visited London, Berlin, Paris and Le Corbusier’s Ronchamp Chapel in France.Colour slide in a mount. Cochran House (1950), Lake Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Melbourne Legacy
Slide, Harelands Study, 1950s
Slide photograph of three children at a desk in Harelands being helped with their homework by a legatee. The legatee is possibly Legatee Mellor who was involved with the Residences for many years. Harelands was a residence run by Melbourne Legacy to take care of children whose fathers were deceased servicemen, and who may have been left orphans, or whose mother may have been unable to care for them herself, or they needed to stay in Melbourne for education. Harelands generally looked after children up to the age of 14. Harelands was built in the Queen Anne style and is now heritage listed. The slides have been photographed to make digital images and moved to archive quality sleeves. In many cases the original images were not well focussed and the digital image is the best available.A record of children being cared for at Harelands.Colour slide of the children in Harelands doing homework with a legatee, in a brown cardboard mount.residences, harelands, study -
