Newsletter - The Grapevine Cuttings by Rob Upson - 'The Pioneer's Grave in Maiden Gully', Sept 1998
Rob Upson became a volunteer at the Bendigo Visitor Centre in 1998. The Staff produced a monthly newsletter called ‘The Grapevine’. Being reasonably new to Bendigo, Rob became interested in its history and began writing articles to share with the volunteers. He called them ‘Grapevine Cuttings’ under the pen name of ‘Merlot’. Rob wrote about 90 articles over a period of 12 years until ‘The Grapevine’ was finally pruned and shutdown. The Murray Valley Hunt Club Inc. stemmed from a conversation in the Member’s Bar at Melbourne Royal Show in 1946 between Des Martin, Wodonga, Victoria and Ken Crawford, Holbrook NSW. Although it was another seven years before the Club was formed it has played a significant part in the history of Wodonga, Albury and district, especially the history related to equestrian activities. Sir Redmond Barry was a Trustee and first President of the Ballarat School of Mines, Australia's first school of mines. Minutes of the Ballarat School of Mines Council (10 nov. 1870) state that a letter be sent to Sir Redmond barry acknowledging with thanks the copy of his address and stating that the COuncil had determined upon ordering 100 copies at at present buyt that the Coucnil had postponed the printing of a larger number till the constitution and some other matters are prepared so as to be printed with that. The Ruyton Reporter (formerly known as Ruyton Reports) captures the essential Ruyton Girls' School experience for the broader school community. It has been produced since 1986.The record has strong historic significance as it pertains to one of the oldest girls' school in Victoria, Australia. Ruyton was founded in 1878 in the Bulleen Road, Kew, home of newly widowed Mrs Charlotte Anderson (now High Street South). The editorial committee for the 1965 Ballarat School of Mines Student Magazine was Trevor Barnett, Gary Bunn, Roger Donaldson, Fred Evans, Ralph Fenney, Greg Hunter, Jon McDonald, Malcolm Park, Geoff Pollard, Gary Roberts, Peter Smith and John Thorne. In 1965 Morgan B. John was President of the Ballarat School of Mines, and the Principal was E.J.
