MV Duntroon was a passenger motor ship built for the Melbourne Steamship Company and used as a troopship between 1942 and 1949. In 1950 it was returned to its owners and refuse as paasenger ship. It was sold in 1961and renamed Tong Hoo. Nicholas Garlick May have worked in the Duntroon between 1950 and 1961.One of the last purpose-built passenger & general cargo ships for the Australian coastal trade, the Duntroon was also known for its role as a troopship (1942-1949) and for the tragic incident on 20 November 1940 when she hit and sank the small auxiliary minesweeper HMAS Goorangai off Queenscliff with the loss of all 24 of Goorangai's crew. Includes full page information about Local Sights Worth Seeing, Accommodation and Country Trips from Bendigo as well as large photographs of the local industries and attractions, noting that it is pre automobile days as there are mostly horse and carts in the photographs. The Bolton family founded a printing business in Bendigo in 1885. Benjamin Bolton was a prominent businessman and on this death in 1901 William Bolton (Mayor 1936 -37) and his brothers took over the business. A replica of the gold nugget 'Poseidon' that was discovered on the 18th of December 1906 at Tarnagulla. It was found 10 inches below the surface, 2 inches above bedrock with much quartz. It was found by Woodall and Party and named after a famous racehorse of the time. Gross weight 953 ozs. Net 703 ozs.
