... Women's Ski Wear 1970s ...This outfit was donated by Hayley Martin. It was worn by two generations of the family, Hayley's mother and later by Hayley herself. Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s the six members of the Martin Family generally spent at least a week each year at Falls Creek, staying at Spargo's Lodge. The Martins then bought a share in Diana Lodge and stayed there frequently until the late 1970s. The sweater (HEAD brand) was purchased at Molony's at Falls Creek.This item is significant as it is indicative of the apparel worn by skiers at Falls Creek in the 1960s and 1970s.Black woollen stretch pants with white line pattern. In this work the pioneer period is defined as women who were either born in the Bacchus Marsh area before 1869 or arrived there prior to 1869. The women's stories in the book are derived from the list of women pioneers of the district compiled in 1936 to commemorate the centenary of European settlement in Bacchus Marsh.Importantly this 2015 publication identifies a number of First Nations women known to have lived in the district prior to 1869 and acknowledges the fact that many thousands of women have lived in the district prior to the European colonial era. The Tawonga branch of the C.W.A. commenced on the 7th Feb. 1946 and often combined activities with the other branches in the Kiewa Valley. The C.W.A. aimed to improve health, welfare and education for women and children in the country.Women living in Tawonga were mostly on farms and, in 1946, when the branch commenced would have been feeling more remote with WW11 having had an effect of available workers and the well being of the women and children. This tea towel would have been used at a later date possibly for fund raising as the group continued to meet and work together.This large blue green, yellow, brown and black with a white border, linen, tea towel has the CWA logo in the middle with pictures of handcrafted items surrounding it. Booklet, How Women Won The Vote And What We Did Next, 2008
This booklet was produced by Hume City Council to commemorate the centenary of Women's Suffrage in 2008. It briefly tells of the efforts of the women who organised and petitioned for the rights of women to vote over many years. In 1890's women's signatures were collected and are recorded on the 'Monster Petition' which was presented to parliament in 1891. The booklet includes names of women from the Hume council region who signed the 'monster petition'. Some names of women in the suffrage movement. It also has names of women who became the first women appointed to various roles in government. This booklet was funded through the Victorian Government's Centenary of Women's Suffrage Grant Program and from the Victorian State government Department of Planning and Community Development.This is a small cream/brown coloured front cover booklet with signatures and area they lived printed on the front cover.
