Photograph - Digital photograph, Wayne Phillipson, Peta Knott and Dorothy Wickham at Lacock National Trust Village, United Kingdom, 30/1072016
Lacock was on the main London to Bristol road until the road was re-routed through Chippenham. There are no obvious signs of the 21st century in this National Trust village, except the motor car. It has been run by the National Trust since 1944 and residents are on a lease. The oldest house in the village is King John's Hunting Lodge, parts of which date back to the 13th century. In this village there are buildings from every century since right up until the 18th century. The abbey was founded in 1229 by Ela, Countess of Salisbury. Lacock village and abbey were used as the set in the Harry Potter films.Dorothy Wickham and Peta Knott, formerly of Museums Australia (Vic) currently working as a marine archaeologist in England. Photograph - Digital Photograph, Leicester Guildhall
The Leicester Guildhall is adjacent to Leicester Cathedral where King Richard III has been reinterred. The interpretative centre nearby is situated upon the car park where his remains were uncovered. The Great Hall was built in 1390 and dates back to medieval days. It was a meeting place for the Guild of Corpus Christi, a select group of influential businessmen and gentry founded in 1343. The Guild had their own altar in the Church of St Martin (now Leicester Cathedral) and used the Great Hall for banquets. By 1563 the building was Leicester's Town Hall. guild hall -

Photograph - Digital photograph, Dorothy Wickham, Grave showing Freemason's symbol, Lindisfarne Island, UK, 2016
Lindisfarne – also known as Holy Island – is one of the most important centres of early English Christianity. It can be reached by car at low tide as there is a causeway across to the Island. Irish monks settled here in AD 635 and the monastery became the centre of a major saint’s cult celebrating its bishop, Cuthbert. The masterpiece now known as the Lindisfarne Gospels was created here in the early 8th century. There is a small village on the island, with a church still in use. Interesting graves, the priory ruin, Viking remnants and a castle adorn the isle.Grave showing Freemason's symbol, Lindisfarne Island, UKIn Memory of George Burn, with a compass and set square and castle symbolgeorge burn, grave, freemason, symbolic, symbol, linidsfarne, st cuthbert, holy island, northumberland -

35mm Slide, Alfred Hall, corner Curtis and Grenville Streets, Ballarat circa 1950s
... cars ballarat Alfred Hall, corner Curtis and Grenville Streets ...Demolition appears to be under way in this image of the Alfred Hall. It was built in 1862 for the visit of Queen Victoria's son Prince Alfred the Duke of Edinburgh, across the Yarrowee (which formed the municipal boundary) apparently because the municipalities of Ballarat and Ballarat East could not decide who should have the honour! The Alfred Hall held many of the city's events over 89 years, but was symbolically locked up the day the Civic Hall in Mair Street was officially opened, in August 1956. Mrs Bon Strange and her husband Bert were well known Ballarat residents. When Mrs Strange died some years ago, her extensive slide collection was sorted through and those relevant to Ballarat were gifted to the Ballarat Library. alfred hall, curtis street, holden cars, ballarat -
