This item is part of a collection of twenty black and white glass lantern slides previously housed together in an old cardboard box. [8611 - 8630] The slides are part of a greater collection of around forty three black and white glass lantern slides, along with other photographs and photo albums related to this collection. This item is associated with the New South Wales Graziers Association world tour of merino sheep 1928/9. The series of photographs show a number of sites included in the Rupertswood Estate. By 1851 William Clarke had acquired 31,375 acres of land in the Sunbury district. The foundation stone for Rupertswood Mansion was laid on 29th August 1874 by Mrs. W. J. Clarke, daughter-in-law of 'Big Bull'. For many years Legacy was invited to bring junior legatees to Government House for for an enjoyable Legacy Christmas party. There were entertainers, carousels and often a train ride. And the joy of a Christmas present for each child. This photo was published in the March 1945 newsletter so was from the party in December 1944. The caption says 'Oscar the bull was a great success with the children at the Junior Legacy Club's Christmas party in Government House grounds. The fact that Oscar wore boots did not in the least detract from his popularity, judging by the expressions of glee.' The governor at the time was His Excellency Sir Frederick Mann. This photo shows an entertainer dressed as a cow and the children on the lawn of Government House. The golf course in San Remo was opened in 1922 and was on the land adjacent to Ocean Grove where Griffiths point lodge and Davis Point road now stand. One hole was placed on the flat land on the beach. There were red flags and the cows used to eat them. Black & White photograph of a group of people with their golf clubs. Noted on back of photo "San Remo Golf Links". A question mark re location as it seems too flat. Maybe it was in Cowes??
