The photograph is from the Brian Walsh Collection 1993. Three blocks of land were purchased in 1946 by Miss F. Ritchie and Mrs H. Grimshaw in Halford St. Inverloch. Three more blocks were purchased in 1948 - 1949. A sixth block was added in 1956. Money was raised by P.F.A. members. Two buildings were purchased from the Government Disposals Authority in 1959. Construction of the camp began in October 1959. Regular working bees were held by P.F.A. members. The first camp was held at the site at Easter 1960. The camp was opened by the Moderator the Rt. Rev. A. Creighton Barr and Flinders Presbytery ministers. In 1998 the decision was taken to sell the site. The young lady in the photograph is Sophia Alice Victoria Benzley who was born on 16th December 1974 at he Gap and died in Carlton 0n 12 December 1956 at Sandringham. At the age of twenty five she married Norman henry Hallo in 1897 at Carlton. The couple had eight children. They were Hilda b. 1899, Norman 1901 - 1979, Olive 1903 - 1958, Howard b.1905, Thelma b. 1907, Leonard b. 1911, Beryl b. 1913 and Constance b. 1916. The Benzley family acquired land and settled in Sunbury in the mid 1800s. Later generations of the family lived at 7 Barkly Street opposite the former Sunbury State School and had a little shop. Len CASTLE (23 December 1924 – 29 September 2011 ) Born New Zealand 'My best work is when intuition and conscious choice come together successfully.' Len Castle trained as a secondary schoolteacher and started making pottery in 1947. Initially self-taught, he was the first potter to be awarded a fellowship from the Association of New Zealand Art Societies, travelling to St Ives to work with Bernard Leach in 1956-57. He lectured at the Auckland Teachers' College until the early 1960s, before concentrating on making stoneware at Titirangi, New Zealand. Peter PILVEN (1956- ) Born Ballarat Peter Pilven is acknowledged by his peers for his high level of tacit skills, including throwing, and for his sound technical knowledge of materials.Training with John Gilbert's Edinborough Pottery from 1972-1975, Pilven trained with Joan Campbell in Fremantle in 1976. In 1977 Peter Pilven obtained a Diploma of Fine Art (Ceramics) from Ballarat College of Advanced Education (now Federation University). The following year he worked with Ian Dowling at Geraldton, WA, and with the Western Australian Aboriginal Education Unit in 1979. He next trained with Alan Cagier-Smith in England between 1980 and 1981. Peter Pilven established his own studion in 1982.Hand built anagama [woodfired] stoneware. This work is part of the Jan Feder Memorial Ceramics Collection. Jan Feder was an alumna of the Gippsland Campus who studied ceramics on the campus. She passed away in the mid 1980s. Her student peers raised funds to buy ceramic works in her memory. He has toured the world mostly competing in Masters athletics and counts as one of his favourite sporting hightlights - carrying the Olympic torch through Melbourne CBD as it neared the final leg in the opening ceremony of the 1956 Games at the MCG, where in later years he has also shown many visitors around as a tour guide.

The "letters to Lillie" show the international nature of the Mission to Seafarers. They are an important display of the handwriting style of the time, revealing courting attempts and give us an insight into life in 1925. American Style Ladder, built by the American LaFrance Company, of Elmira, New York, as Lend Lease Appliances, during World War 11 The genesis of the vehicle is the City Service JO Series Ladder, which in this form became the JOX, - X for Export, model, as some items of equipment were not requested in the U.S. Treasury Department specification for these vehicles. Seven of them came to Australia in 1942 / 43, and all bar two are still in existence / preservation, in various States. Initially, they were supplied to the MFB, and later transferred to the CFBB / CFA.
