Invitation to a Cocert by the Pupils of Miss J Dais, Temperance Hall, Friday December 14 1894 Issued to Mts and Misses Kane. THE GOVERNORSHIP. Article - The Bendigo Independent (Vic. : 1891 - 1918)Saturday 15 December 1894 - Page 2 Last evening the pupils of Miss J. Dias gave a concert in the Temperance Hall. The hall, which was tastefully decorated, the platform being draped and set off with fairy lamps, was well filled. Mr D. B. Lazarus who was to have presided telegraphed from Melbourne an apology for unavoidable absence. The following pupils contributed:— Piano solos, Misses L. Job, Annie Hunter, Annie Taylor, Maggie McKnowne, M. Pound and Birdie Rickards ; piano duets, Misses M. Heine and M, McKnowne, A. and E. Taylor, Roeder and McCann ; vocal solos, Misses Taylor, Nicholls and Rickards; vocal duet, Misses Rickards and Dias. During the interval Miss Dias gave a pleasing piano solo. The manner in which the pupils performed showed the careful training which they have undergone at the hands of their instructress. -

These post cards of Alexandria, Egypt have been sent by an Australia soldier on active service, probably in Egypt, during World War One. The cards have been sent to Miss May Harvey of Naringal. No information has been found on either the sender of the post cards or the recipient. This album is of considerable interest as it is a local souvenir of World War One, a set of post cards sent to Miss May Harvey who lived in Naringal at the time (about 1916). This is a packet of 24 detachable post cards –black and white photographs of Alexandria, Egypt, produced during World War One. The post cards are intact and have tissue paper protecting each card. The cover is red with gold and black lettering and a black and gold stamped ornamental badge with a circle containing the initials, ‘L. C.’ The post cards have been stapled into the packet. Each post card is labelled in French, as is the title on the front.Front Cover: ‘E. The Springthorpe Memorial is the most important monument in the Boroondara General cemetery. It commemorates Annie Constance Springthorpe (nee Inglis), the wife of Dr. John Springthorpe (1867-1897). Following his wife’s death, Dr john Springthorpe worked with John Longstaff to produce a book, entitled ‘In Memoriam’ for his personal collection, for his children and for immediate family members. Designed by Longstaff, it contained poems, photographs, drawings and idealised memories of Annie and their life together. This is one of two copies of In Memoriam in the collection of the Kew Historical Society. It is believed to be one of eight copies held in public collections. Copies catalogued on Trove include one at the State Library of Victoria and another at the University of Melbourne.
