Photograph - The Sarah Coventry Pty. Ltd. building in Wodonga, Victoria, c. 1969
Sarah Coventry Pty. Ltd. was a North American jewellery company that was established in 1949 by the Stuart family as part of Emmons Jewelry, Inc. It began operations in England and Australia in 1968, and in Australia it moved from Carlton in Melbourne to Wodonga in 1969. The premises were originally on High St. in Wodonga, but a new warehouse was built in Melbourne Rd. later in 1969. It was a direct selling jewellery business using a party-plan model similar to Tupperware and Avon. The sales reps or 'Hostesses' were provided with jewellery samples in demonstration kits, which they displayed at jewellery parties in their homes. The designs for jewellery such as brooches, necklaces, earrings, chokers and bracelets were purchased from freelance designers and jewellery manufacturers rather than in-house designers. In 1979 Sarah Coventry Pty. Ltd. in Wodonga was bought by three Australian businessmen, including Wodonga local Jim Sawyer, and continued to sell jewellery under the name "Sargem Pty. Ltd”, for several more years in the 1980s. The black and white photograph of the 1969 Sarah Coventry Pty. Ltd. warehouse in Wodonga has local significance as part of the decentralised commercial development of regional centres such as Wodonga in NE Victoria. As part of the Sarah Coventry collection, the photograph has national and international significance from the perspective of social and economic developments for women after World War II. The direct selling party-plan business model it was based on is also considered the first of its kind for jewellery.Black and white photographic print of the outside of the Sarah Coventry Pty. Female students were initially accommodated on separate floors, and the Council has since attempted to maintain between 25% and 50% female students. The Scheps Wing was opened in May that year, named in honour of donors Theodor and Ida Scheps, its 92 rooms accomodating the growth of IH's diverse student body. John Howie was IH Student Club President from 1971-1972, the first permitted to regularly attend IH Council Meetings after years of petitioning for Council representation by the Student Club. Falls Creek Historical Society
Article - "Father" watches over his mountain-top family, 30 July 1986
This article acknowledged the naming of Ory's Trail at Falls Creek in 1986. Orest “Ory” Frueauf was born in Kharkov, Russia in 1925 and moved to Germany with his family to escape persecution. He was conscripted to the German Army during the Second World War. He was a POW until 1948. He was recruited by a French construction company to work as and interpreter on a hydroelectricity project in Tasmania. Ory then moved to work on the Snowy Mountain Scheme including driving a truck to fill the wall of the Rocky Valley dam. In 1952 Ory was recruited by the Albury Ski Club as its lodge supervisor. That year he also entered into a business partnership with Cecil Dobson, running the general store “Whitehaven” and Post Office at Falls Creek. They extended their business by adding accommodation turning Whitehaven into one of the best commercial lodges at Falls Creek. Ory and Cecil dissolved their business partnership in 1963 and Ory went on to build a new lodge called “Snowhaven” at the site of the present day Frueauf Village, Falls Creek. Ory retired to Tawonga, Victoria in 1992 and passed away in 1999.This article is significant because it documents the naming of Ory's Trail to recognise a pioneer of Falls Creek.A newspaper item about Ory Freauf on the occasion of the naming of Ory's Trail at Falls Creek.falls creek pioneers, frueauf, ory frueauf -

Spoon, Ozone Hotel, Early 20th century
This spoon comes from the Ozone Hotel in Warrnambool. The Ozone Hotel was opened in 1890 as the Grand Ozone Coffee Palace (a temperance hotel) and was at the corner of Koroit and Kepler Streets in Warrnambool. It was built by a company of local businessmen and leased out. In 1891 the Coffee Palace was granted a wine licence. In 1895 Thomas Randall was the proprietor of the building and it was re-named the Ozone Hotel. The building was closed in 1915 and was re-opened in 1920 as the Hotel Mansions. In 1923 the Hotel Mansions became a fully-licensed hotel. In 1929 it was destroyed by fire and the present-day Hotel Warrnambool was built on the site. This little spoon is of considerable significance as it is one of the few items we have from the Ozone Hotel in Warrnambool. The Grand Ozone Coffee Palace/Ozone Hotel/Hotel Mansions was the grandest building ever erected in Warrnambool. Its destruction by fire was a major loss to the town. This is an electro-plated nickel silver teaspoon. It has the maker’s marks on the back of the spoon and the name of the hotel on the handle. It is much tarnished and scratched. ‘Ozone Hotel’grand ozone coffee palace, warrnambool, ozone hotel, warrnambool, hotel mansions, warrnambool -

Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum and Village
Photograph - Horse and plough, Duke, 20th century
This photograph shows the relationship between the farmer and his working animal, which is a close one. Farmers in years gone by depended on reliable and strong animals to allow them to work their land efficiently. The close relationship is indicated by the photograph's title, the name of the horse 'Duke'. The horse in this photograph is a Clydesdale cross named "Duke" that pulled a market wagon around Flagstaff Hill from the mid-1980's to the early-1990's, providing rides for visiting children and carting goods and equipment around the Village. Duke is pictured with his owner Pat McGowan. Duke passed away in August 1992. In October 1992 funds were raised by the community to purchase another Clydesdale named Duke began working at Flagstaff Hill under Pat McGowan's care. This photograph of man, horse and plough shows the typical farming method used by early settlers in Victoria in the 19th and early 20th century. The photograph is an indication of the respect the farmer had for his working animals.Photograph, black and white, behind glass in timber frame with gilt inner border.
