The Mitcham Post Office was erected in 1924 as a large double-storied brick residence with two shops facing Whitehorse Road. In the larger shop Bertha and Patrick Markham operated a mixed newsagency business and the local Post office. Bertha Markham was appointed Postmistress. Mitcham Model Dairy was owned by Patrick and Mary Davin for 30 years. When they closed, Kew Model Dairy took over their customers. The home of Mr & Mrs Peake was situated in Whitehorse Road, Mitcham. The Peake and Cox timber yard was on the opposite side of the road. Ronald Peake, the only son of Mr and Mrs Peake was killed in the Second World War.
