Victorian Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (VIOSH) Australia is the Asia-Pacific centre for teaching and research in occupational health and safety (OHS) and is known as one of Australia's leaders on the field. VIOSH has a global reputation for its innovative approach within the field of OHS management. VIOSH had its first intake of students in 1979. At that time the Institution was known as the Ballarat College of Advanced Education. In 1990 it became known as Ballarat University College, then in 1994 as University of Ballarat. It was 2014 that it became Federation University. VIOSH Australia students are safety managers, senior advisors and experienced OHS professionals. They come from all over Australia and industry. Students are taught active research and enquiry; rather than textbook learning and a one-size fits all approach. VIOSH accepts people into the Graduate Diploma of Occupational Hazard Management who have no undergraduate degree - on the basis of extensive work experience and knowledge. In 1964 the Victorian Government announced that a committee be established to plan for the establishment of a Victorian Institute of Colleges. Eight Technical colleges would be raised to the level of university colleges. Ballarat School of Mines was on the list. Plans were also underway for the development of a new campus at Mount Helen. The Mount Helen Campus was officially opened on 30 October 1970 by the Hon Sir Nigel Bowen, Minister for Education and Science. John Ellison was at the Ballarat teacher's college in 1947 and was editor of the students' newspaper.Two copies of the Ballarat college student's newsletter. Volume 2 of the "Standard" from 1947 and a Christmas edition of College chat 1947. The newsletters present many folds and rips. Dirty with rust spots and stains all over. The Inaugural Cornish College Cocktail Party was held on Friday 16 Dec 2011, on the lawn outside the Sustainability Centre overlooking the lake.It was held on the day when the transfer of land title of Cornish Campus to Cornish College happened i.e. the first official day of Cornish College.Two A4 colour printed pages sent as an email to Michael and Pam Sutton. Frank Wright was a renown resident of Smeaton, where he was born on 2 August 1901. He lived at Laura Villa, and attended Smeaton State School. His father William was a gold miner and his mother's name was Sarah. Their family won many singing and instrumental awards. Frank was tutored by Percy Code and was awarded a gold medal for the highest marks in the ALCM examinations in the British Colonies at the age of seventeen years. He became the Australian Open Cornet Champion by the age of eighteen. A year later, Frank conducted the City of Ballarat Band, and later the Ballarat Soldiers’ Memorial Band. He formed the Frank Wright Frisco Band and Frank Wright and his Coliseum Orchestra. These bands won many South Street awards, and Frank as conductor won many awards in the Australian Band Championship contest. In 1933 Frank Wright sailed to England to conduct the famous St Hilda’s Band and was later appointed Musical Director of the London County Council, where he organized many amazing concerts in parks, in and around the London district. He was made Professor of Brass and Military Band Scoring and conducted at the Guildhall of Music and Drama. Frank was often invited to adjudicate Brass Band Championships around Europe, in Australia, including South Street and in New Zealand. The Frank Wright Medal at the Royal South Street competition is awarded to an individual recognized as making an outstanding contribution to brass music in Australia.White paper with black printed header and typed letter addressed to Mr Frank Wright from the Associated Board of the Royal Academy of Music and Royal College of Music of London, England for Local Examinations in Music, telling him that he had won a prise for obtaining the highest marks in the Licentiate Examinations in Victoria for 1931. "A portrait of well-known Brighton identity Bill Butterss was unveiled by his wife Betty at Castlefield, Haileybury College Junior School, Brighton, recently. Mr Butterss is a life governor of the College, and a former student was chairman of the council between 1976 and 1983. The portrait was pained by Ron Crawford of Hawthorn Rod." The State Governor Sir Rohan Delacombe and Lady Delacombe visited the Shire of Eltham where they were entertained to a civic luncheon by the Shire President Cr. L. E. Clarke and councilors at the Panton Hill hotel and made a tour of the shire. Among the sites visited was Eltham College. Cr Les Clarke (right) is the architect and regarded as the founder of Eltham College which opened months later in February 1974.
