Insulates electrical wire/cable which is attached in the groove. Screwed into the cross arm of a power pole. Non conductive so electricity doesn't short out to the ground.Used on power poles in the Kiewa ValleyClear blue tinted glass insulator - bell shaped at the closed end. Deep, wide groove towards the wide open end. The wide end is inscribed and opens to a decorated edge of small balls around the circumference. Inside there is a cylinder which is threaded for screwing onto a power pole. Saucer Ceramic, c1921
The SECV had chalets, cafes, mess halls and tea rooms all over Victoria including their construction sites. The SECV had a stores system which purchased thousands of sets of crockery and cutlery for use by personnel. There was a system of chefs, cooks, tea persons etc. to supply food and beverages to the workers. This saucer was used at one of the sites on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme.Heavy, white ceramic saucer with State Electricity Commission of Victoria 1921 log/insignia on inside lip. At the time of writing this book The State Electricity Commission of Victoria had been in existence for 30 years. This book tells something of its progress and achievements during that period. It includes brown coal and water power. The Commission was to develop and use these natural resources through the expertise and experience of the Commissioners, its staff and employees. Book - Educational - Typewriting, Pitman's Commercial Typewriting by W. & E. Walmsley, 1942
During the 1940's students learnt typing as part of a Commercial Course. This book enabled students to complete a practical course by following the graded Exercises and Lessons and by testing their progress. Historical: Typing was taught at Intermediate level during the 1940's for students living in the Kiewa Valley. Green hard cover book bound at the top with black border, title, author & symbol of Pitman's on the front. Towards the bottom of the book (front and back) is an eyelet with a hole enabling a brown cord to pass through (held by a metal T stopper). This enables the book to be stood up next to the typewriter for easy to see copying. The back cover of the book has 3 white stickers with typed information. Coathanger - trousers/skirts
Coat hangers were used to hang up trousers or skirts by the waist. This coat hanger was designed prior to clips with springs being used.Wooden coat hanger with wire fitted hook used to hang trousers (or skirts) by moving a steel plate along the wire (to tighten the grip). There are 2 rectangular pieces of wood with small padding attached on the inside outer edges. Each piece of wood has wire coming out of the centre. The wire is vertical before rounding to form a hook and is continuous. The wire has a small steel plate with 2 holes along the vertical section.coat hanger. clothes. skirts. trousers. -

Aerogramme - Australia
Aerogrammes were used to write letters to be sent overseas. They were a standard size and light and therefore suitable for aeroplanes. Both sides of the paper were written on and then the paper was folded to form a letter with the name of the sender and addressee.Blue paper with orange "Aerogramme" and "Australia 12c" stamp printed on it. Other print is green and includes "By Air Mail . Par Avion" and Instructions. This aerogramme has not been used.letter. aerogramme. postage. -

Jan Burnett took the photos describing the site as on the up-hill side of the Car Racing Track where a house now stands. The 'new' Tawonga Hall was in use before this one was demolished.The Tawonga Hall is a popular venue for Kiewa Valley residents. This map was produced as a result of the 'pressure from walkers' who are interested in climbing the accessible peaks on the Bogong High Plains. Places, huts and rivers are named and indexed. Contours are not given. Heights of mountains are in metres.The Bogong High Plains is a popular walking area and a National Park. This one depicts Australian aborigines in the photos and may have been used in Aboriginal classes during the 1980's.Adult literacy in South Australia was targeted for varying groups including Aborigines. The Tawonga School opened in 1880 for the children of the surrounding farming families. Its enrolment increased when the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme peaked in the 1950's and it continues to educate the children of the local families (town and farm) now (2015). This book covers 100 years of the history of the Kiewa Valley. Parish Maps - Kiewa Valley
The Parish Maps show how the Counties were divided into allotments for buyers. On one the original owners are named and the sizes of their properties given. The reference numbers enable individuals research the history of the property. The other is on a smaller scale giving only the allotment numbers. The map with the names gives information on the early settlers of the Kiewa Valley. Letters - Briggs Bros
The Briggs family lived in Tawonga. Thomas assisted building the Tawonga to Bright road and drove cattle to the Bogong High Plains before marrying in 1887 and raising 7 children, 2 of whom, Ernest and Albert enlisted in WW1 in 1916. Their letters from the war give an insight into its effects and the attitude of the time.The Briggs Bros. lived in the Kiewa Valley at Tawonga. Their letters give an insight into the war and an understanding of the times. Horses were coupled together to form a team to pull farm machinery to work on farms. Later, petrol and kerosene equipment was used and then diesel. The Kiewa Valley consisted of farming families before the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme was constructed in the late 1940's at the upper end of the valley. Ski Lift Ticket - strip, 1978
During 1978 strips of tickets were used on the Nursery and Link lifts at Falls Creek. For each ride a ticket was torn off by the operator at the bottom of the lift. Ski lift tickets have changed often during the years from single lift coins, single tickets, day tickets, electronic tickets. The names and existence of lifts has also changed over time.In 1978 ski lift tickets were sold as a strip of 7 and operators were employed on each lift to collect them. Falls Creek is a major ski resort in Victoria and Australia. This strip has been superseded by other forms of 'tickets' sold at Falls Creek. This ticket also names 2 of the lifts which operated in 1978. Seven ski lift tickets attached as a strip to a butt. They are for the Nursery lift or the Link Lift at Falls Creek for the 1978 season. The writing is black on white and the strip has a thick green stripe down the length of it. The Roper family lived and farmed in the Kiewa Valley. They may have sent their son, Bert, to C.G.S. (Caufield Grammar / Camberwell Grammar School). The Roper family were early settlers in the Kiewa Valley.Glass cover of a Black & White Photo of a boys football team with 'V' jumpers, white shorts and 2 footballs with 'C.G.S / 1909' written on them. The photo is attached to an embroidered cotton backing allowing the photo to be seen through an oval shape cut out in the middle. Around the embroidery is a brown wooden frame. Bogong Village was built for the workers of the State Elecricity Commission of Victoria who were employed to construct the Kiewa Hydro electric Scheme. This photo shows their homes and offices etc., Lake Guy and the spillway during construction days.Bogong village was built as part of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme.
