These six photographs were most likely taken in the 1990s in Lithographic Squadron at the Army Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo. There is no annotation describing the date or personnel in the photographs. Cromalin proofing was a laminate and dry powder proofing system introduced in 1978. The system allowed the production of true to colour proofs, mainly for the proofing of orthophoto maps and process printed 1:250,000 JOG that used positive printing plates. It was upgraded in 1986. The pre-press proof was a cost-effective way of producing a one-off visual copy of the map or chart product. It enabled cartographers to perform a quality inspection and correct any faults before publication. This ledger appears to have been a mortgage document held by the law firm of Mackay Taylor and Co. with the evidence for this the presence of two loose sheets of paper in the ledger with that firm’s letterhead. Mackay Taylor was established in 1893 with the merger of the firms of George Sutherland Mackay and James Fletcher, independent practising lawyers at the time. The new firm became Fletcher and Mackay and later changed to Mackay and Taylor when J. McD. Taylor became a partner in the 1920s and the business was at 131 Kepler Street, with a new building erected in the late 1920s. The legal business closed in the 1990s with the mortgage section of the firm becoming Mackay Taylor Securities in 1990 (later Southern Securities). The ledger was recovered when the building was being cleared out and Percy Eccles, a real estate agent, handed it to the Warrnambool and District Historical SocietyThis ledger has considerable significance as an example of a law firm’s business activities in the mid 20th century. This ledger contains an Index to Drafts for Mortgages, Conveyances and Deed of Covenants etc (1896 to 1913) which was in use by the Warrnambool solicitor, Ernest Chambers. He had offices in Warrnambool, Koroit and Port Fairy in the late 19th century and early 20th century and Thomas Goodall was his manager in Warrnambool until 1899 when Chambers took up permanent residence in Warrnambool. The ledger was found in the old Mackay Taylor offices in Kepler Street and presumably came into the possession of this law firm at a later stage when Ernest Chambers was no longer operating in Warrnambool. The firm of Mackay Taylor was originally established in 1898 from the amalgamation of the law firms of George Mackay and James Fletcher. In the 1920s the firm became Mackay and Taylor when J. Taylor joined as a partner and this business was prominent in Warrnambool until the 1990s.This ledger has some significance as it contains the names of many Warrnambool and district residents of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and gives some indication of what type of legal transaction they were involved with. These stamps, with three of them used as official Common Seals, belonged to the Warrnambool Co-operative Society Limited and its associate business, the Warrnambool & District Artificial Breeders’ Co-operative Society Limited. This co-operative group of businesses was established in 1960 as the Allansford & District Artificial Breeders’ Co-operative Society to provide herd improvement services to district farmers. In the mid 1970s it had become the Warrnambool Co-operative Society Limited with other associated businesses and had a retail store in Timor Street with other services established in other local buildings. The co-operative gradually expanded until by the late 1990s it had 8000 members, 84 full-time employees and 120 casual employees and, by the 21st century a complex of new buildings in Warrnambool. The Warrnambool Co-op, as it was known, closed in 2007. These stamps and Common Seals are mementoes of the Warrnambool & District Co-operative Society Ltd, an important group of businesses in Warrnambool for over 30 years. Many local people were members of this co-operative venture. These are four stamps from the Warrnambool Co-Operative Society Limited and its associated businesses:- 1. This is a letterhead from Proudfoot’s Boathouse in Warrnambool. Thomas Proudfoot built the boathouse near the mouth of the Hopkins River in 1885 and it was an accommodation and dining place for tourists, especially for those interested in fishing and other recreational pursuits and it was the base for the Hopkins Rowing Club. Proudfoot built additions in 1888 and 1893 and after he died in 1900 his wife Catherine continued on the business for over 30 years, transferring the licence to her son. In 1939 Thomas Proudfoot’s granddaughter, Ena Hunt gained the licence and operated the business with her husband Percy until 1979. It is Percy Hunt’s name on the letterhead described here. The business today is mainly centred around catering and dining. In the 1990s other buildings were added to the boathouse complex, with the original buildings now being heritage-listed. This item is of some interest as it is the only memento we have of the Hunt family’s 40 years proprietorship of Proudfoot’s Boathouse, a significant set of buildings in Warrnambool.This is a single sheet of cream coloured paper with blue and red printing and a blue-coloured photograph of Proudfoot’s Boat House. Since their Australian introduction in the early 20th century, public telephones have undergone several design iterations; diversifying methods of payment from coin to card, incorporating solar charging, mobile charging and Wi-fi access and of course, mitigation against vandalism. This model, a coin-operated Gold Phone, replaced the easily pilfered Red Phone and was succeeded by the Blue Phone in the 1990s. Although the prevalence of public telephones has decreased alongside the increase in mobile phone usage, public telephones remain under Telstra’s universal service obligation as vital communications infrastructure for low-income citizens and those needing to communicate in disasters. A history of the beginnings of the Legacy Anzac Student Commemoration service. It mentioned that Legacy was delegated the job of providing speakers in schools to discuss Anzac Day with the students. The volume of work was immense and after consultation with the Director of Education, Mr Frank Tate, it was decided to hold a student only Anzac Observance ceremony in 1930. In 1931 Legacy took over the event and organised a radio broadcast to schools through 3LO. It was estimated the broadcast reached between 200,000 and 300,000 students. The bulk of the document is a recount by Legatee E W Mylrea in 1937, about the development of the service. He was a Past President of the RSS&AILA (Vic) and one of Victoria's most distinguished head-masters. Was in a binder of documents that is passed from an outgoing President to the incoming President. It is primarily from the 1930s to 1990s. A history of Legacy Christmas Toy Appeal. It began in 1949 with Legatee Norman Heathcote who was District Inspector of the Education Department's Metropolitan No 1 area (Port Melbourne to Sandringham). The schools produced toys which were donated to Legacy to distribute. Initially 800 toys were handed to Legacy. In 1950 it increased to 3,000 toys which were shared with Carry On. The document was written in 1967 when approximately 7,000 toys were expected and the total distributed was almost 110,000. Legacy had a Christmas Toy Appeal Committee as part of it's structure. The document includes an agenda for a handover ceremony on 16 November 1967. Was in a binder of documents that is passed from an outgoing President to the incoming President. It is primarily from the 1930s to 1990s. This is an example of Melbourne Legacy promotional material from 1998. Australian actors John Wood and Lisa McCune are shown with Legacy badges. They were in the very popular tv police drama 'Blue Heelers' at the time. It ran from 1994 to 2006. The main time of year for fundraising is September when Legacy holds 'Badge Week'. Often there is a celebrity who gives his or her time as 'Personality of the Year'. Examples are Sir Weary Dunlop (1992), Clive James (1993), the Scott family (1994), The Emmanuel brothers (1995), Daryl Somers (1996 and 1997), and Patsy Adam Smith (1994?). This letter book (1910-1922) was found in the old Mackay Taylor building in Kepler Street. The Secretary of the Presbytery of Mortlake in the early 1900s was George Mackay who established his legal business in 1891 and merged with the business of James Fletcher in 1893 to form Fletcher and Mackay. In the 1920s J. Taylor joined the business which was known from then on as Mackay and Taylor and this firm existed until the 1990s. George Mackay was prominent in Warrnambool civic and community affairs and was Secretary of St. John’s Presbyterian Church for many years. The Presbytery of Mortlake was an administrative district committee established in 1862 and included the Presbyterian churches of Port Fairy, Tower Hill, Wangoom, Allansford, Warrnambool, Woodford, Hexham, Caramut, Mortlake and Terang. The committee consisted of the local ministers, some elders and other church representatives and met monthly or quarterly to discuss church business that affected the region.This letter book is of some significance as it indicates the type of business carried out by a district church council – properties, missions, individual church problems etc. It also shows the community work of George Mackay, a prominent Warrnambool resident at the time, and the book contains his signature many times over. The book will be of interest to researchers. This is a ledger with dark blue binding and binding reinforcements on the spine and corners. The inside covers are lined with thick paper in a mottled blue, black and white coloured pattern. There are 249 pages of copies of letters written, some typed, some handwritten. Photo album detailing the process involved in the Jumbo Wool Auction Service. This process was developed by Grazcos, a company who advanced innovations for shearers and wool farmers before amalgamating with Dalgety in the early 1990s. Grazcos was a well-known name to source a competent shearing team, or as a destination for wool in need of bulk classing. The Jumbo Wool Auction service was designed to process wool more efficiently through volume. 63 traditionally dumped farm bales of wool would fill a typical shipping container. The Jumbo Wool Auction Service enabled 108 farm bales to fit into the same container. This brought reductions in the costs of handling, selling, storing, and shipping of wool. This photo album details this process; from classing to shipping. This photo album was a draft copy produced for review before the production of mass-produced advertising flyers. 12-page hard cover photo album. The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. In 1977 8/13 VMR Regiment was reduced to an independent squadron A Squadron 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles and in 1991 was linked with 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse forming the VMR Squadron of that regiment.Members of the Women’s Royal Australian Army Corps (WRAAC) were posted to Army Reserve units in the 1980s and 1990s. They were rarely posted to Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs) but were invaluable in the A1 Echelon driving fuel, ammunition, ration and water supply vehicles. A collection of papers made by Betty Williamson for a presentation at RVIB, and includes newspaper articles as well as a potted history of the Club. In the 1960's, the RVIB approached engineer George Glover to produce equipment to allow blind people to shoot, based upon that made available at St Dunstan's Hospital in the UK. The rifle range opened in February 1966 at the rear of St Kilda Road with 30 members, and soon became involved in matches with sighted rifle clubs in the area. The club had many successful years, competing against teams from Canada and New Zealand in 1968, and had the support of ICIANZ which provided them with free munitions as well as teams to compete against. In 1977, George Glover passed away and some of the skills required for maintenance of the equipment was lost, however the club continued until the late 1980's/early 1990s.1 folder of papers and pennantsrvib rifle club, george glover
