Hankerchiefs have been used for centuries as a piece of cloth deemed useful for personal hygiene. They are usually kept in one's pocket but at times through history have been fluttered to attract attention or send a message. In harder times they proved to be a cheap item often used to add interest to an outfit. This item is one of five hankerchiefs which were brought back from France after WW1 by great uncles of Gloria Redman and have been passed down through her grandmother and mother. This item has significance as an item linked to a local family and World War 1 and as such has social, and historical significance. It is well provenanced and can be used to provide interest to the relating of a fairly common story whereby many soldiers brought or sent back small items such as hankerchiefs to their loved ones at home.Cream silk hankerchief embroidered in cream silk white work.The edge is done in blanket stitch on a scalloped edge. The Greek Commemorative War Medal was instituted by Royal Decree on 19.8.1947. It was awarded for service from the outbreak of war in Greece 1940 to the fall of Crete in 1941. It was also awarded to allied foreign troops who saw service as per the areas covered on the reverse of the medal. This medal was awarded to Alan Kenneth NAISMITH DCM, VX4838, 2/7th Bn. Refer Cat No 1421 for his service details.The medal itself is gilded bronze. The front of the medal in the centre is a relief of King George II of Greece. Around the outside is a laurel wreath joined at the top by a crown. The ribbon is attached by a ring suspender.The ribbon has a centre light blue stripe with a dark blue stripe each side. on the edges of the ribbon is a thin light blue stripe. The rear of the ribbon has a pin clasp The rear of the medal has a thin raised edge on the outside of the medal. The inscription in the centre is raised. The wording is in Greek except for the date. This item was probably traded at the Bogong Mountain tribal yearly summer ceremoniesThe significance of this item places it at the fore front of human development in this region. The period when this tool was manufactured represents the time when the natural landscape had not been altered and the natural vegetation, fauna and flora, had not been subjected to imported species.This also proves that local tribes did live in this area and or the Bogong High Plains.Small ground edge stone axe head. Diana Trewenack is the youngest daughter of Cedric Hirst and great granddaughter of Godfrey Hirst. Her father was Managing Director and Chairman of Directors of Godfrey Hirst Woollen Mills until its takeover in the 60’s. Diana was married at St David's Church in Geelong in May 1954. The material for the wedding gown was made with very fine cream wool woven at the Godfrey Hirst Woollen Mill. From discussion with Diana, the dress was put together by a local dressmaker in Geelong. It is fine pure wool and beaded on the edge of the wrap over skirt and on the long train.Cream coloured woollen wedding dress with long sleeves. The 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) was raised in 1920 as part of the 3rd Cavalry Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Division, Citizen Military Forces, with Headquarters at Seymour and depots along the Goulburn Valley from Mansfield to Tocumwal in southern NSW. In December 1941, 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) converted from horse to mechanised, initially as 20th Motor Regiment. In 1943 the Regiment was deployed to Merauke, Dutch New Guinea. Upon its return in April 1945, the Regiment was redesignated 20th Pioneer Battalion.
