Short history of the Long Gully Fie Brigade by G A Ellis. The brigade started in 1873 and was disbanded in 1932. The brigades's main appliance was a cart or reel pulled by the men. The men used to practice in Creeth Street and later there were competitions with other brigades. A new station was built in 1905. Prisioners did not have heating, beds, seats or eating utensils. A public meeting in 1862 called for the debtor's quarters at the gaol to be lit with gas, handsomely furnished throughout and that inmates be provided with a bottle of wine, one bottle of brandy daily and tobacco and pipes availabe at liberty.
