In 1988, the senior students at Bulla Primary School, under the supervision of their teacher undertook a community activity to paint a school sign that could be seen from a distance. They collected rocks that were lying across the exposed hillside above the school and arranged them into the word 'BULLA'. They then painted the rocks with white paint. Anyone approaching Bulla township from Sunbury would see the sign across the valley. The Snowy River can flood over its floodplain at Orbost/Newmerella. There have been wet periods when floods were frequent and covered the floodplain, sometimes causing great disruption to crops and farming, and also to transport. This was created for the annual Orbost Show 1975. It provides information to potential exhibitors. The first meeting to form an Agricultural society in Orbost was convened by the then Orbost Progress Association and held in the Mechanics Hall on Saturday, 10th October 1891. Its first show was held on 3rd March 1904...on a site alongside the Bonang Road where the present Golf Club stands. It is currently held at the Recreation Reserve at Newmerella.
