A proposal letter written by Mark Strizic for a grant from the Commonwealth Art Advisory Board to fund a series of art books. Strizic proposes a series of books illustrated by Strizic's own photography, under the series title Expressions. Strizic seeks a grant of $4900 from the board for the publication of two books, one of furniture maker Schulim Krimper, another on John Perceval's Cherubs. In April-May 1971, Robin and Patricia Boyd travelled to Honolulu, east coast USA and London. In London he was one of the judges for the Commonwealth-wide entries for the redevelopment of Whitehall and the Palace of Westminster. Humidicribs are used to transport sick babies from small hospitals to major hospitals for specialist care. They work by maintaining normal body temperature and provide oxygen if needed during ambulance transit. Known by a variety of commercial names, earlier humidicribs were ones heated with water bottles. Not part of an ambulances standard equipment, humidicribs are kept in ambulance stations and carried if babies needed to be transported. In the early days before humidicribs came into use and when air ambulances did not exist, many more babies died during emergency transits than do today Manufactured by the Commonwealth Industrial Gases Limited (better known as CIG), Australian-made Port-O-Cot brand humidicribs came replaced timber home-made humidicribs. They had electrical heating and easy to control oxygen flow and humidity control equipment. CIG also noted that noted that: Once the baby has been placed inside, the cot need not be opened, all nursing operations being carried out through the iris armholes. Even though the baby is in complete isolation nursing is a straight forward matter… The iris armholes allow nurses to feed, weigh, take temperatures, change napkins or, in fact, carry out any procedures without changing or disturbing the atmosphere within the cot. Oliver Charles served in the Army (6047) enlisting on, 20/03/1916 in Swan Hill, VIC before being discharged from duties with the 5 BATTALION as a Army Non-Commissioned Corporal / Bombardier (CPL/LBDR) on 23/06/1919. Oliver Charles MURPHY was not a prisoner of war. His next of kin is Mrs Sarah Ann MURPHY - Wife.Badge with motif of the Rising Sun, for use on Australian Army slouch hats. Rising Sun includes rays of sunshine in an arch around a crown, below which there is a scroll bearing text. The Australian Service Medal 1939-1945 was awarded to armed Australian forces and volunteer defence corps for their service during WWII. Created by King Geroge IV, this was the first distinctive Australian medal in the British system of honours and awards.Medallion attached to a navy blue, light blue, red and beige striped ribbon. The medallion depicts an effigy of King George IV of Great Britain and the commonwealth with the words: "GEORGE IV S VI (obscured component) G. BR. OMN. REX ET INDIAE IMP" in relief on one side. Lieutenant Colonel MW Fairless transferred from the Royal Australian Artillery when he took up a posting in Albury with the Commonwealth Bank. He was Commanding Officer of 8/13 VMR 1965 - 1969. The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. He later served at Gallipoli during the First World War, and died of wounds after being strafed during the Battle of Beersheba as part of the Sinai and Palestine campaign. The Maygar Club was the Other Ranks club at firstly Buna Barracks Albury, later at North Bandiana and currently at Latchford Barracks Bonegilla. This is a supplement to Winty Calder's earlier work 'Heroes and Gentlemen'. Thomas Caradoc Rose Price CB, often known as Colonel Tom Price, was an Australian soldier, and acting commandant of the Commonwealth Military Forces in Victoria in 1902. Joining the British Indian Army in his early years, he served 20 years in India before returning to Australia. In 1885, he raised the Victorian Mounted Rifles, and was instrumental in establishing the concept of light horse units within the Australian Army. In 1900, he led a Victorian contingent during the Second Boer War, and was the only Australian officer during that war to command a force of British regulars. He remained in the Australian military after the war, serving in Queensland until 1904 when he was medically discharged.
