Ballarat Clarendon College
Trowel, prior to September 1956
The trowel was used by Dr W A Sloss when he set the foundation stone for the new boarding school wing at Clarendon College, Webster Street site, on 22 September 1956. The builing of this wing enabled up to 100 boarders to be accommodated on the Webster Street property. Dr Sloss had been one of the school trustees; at the time of the building project he was Deputy Chairman of the school Council; he was also the school medical advisor for many years. Souvenir, Daylesford Highland Gathering memorial, 12/2006
The Daylesford Highland Gathering celebrates Scottish culture, music and dance. Established in 1952 by Dan McKinnon, the gathering has a long standing history of bringing people interested in the Scottish culture from within Australia and Internationally. In 2006 University of Ballarat Vice Chancellor David Battersby opened the 55th gathering. Stawell was known as a gold mining town. The Stawell Town Hall clock and tower were erected by Mrs Norman Kelly in memory of her late father Cr George Barnes, a councillor of the Borough of Stawell over a period of 47 years, and also her mother, the late Emma Barnes. 10 May 1939. The animated mining scene on the Stawell Town Hall was incorporated into the tower from a bequest by Emma Kelly.
