AMF Rising Sun Hat Badge Collection
History of the seven versions of the Rising Sun hat badge.Two sided hinged timber look box set containing replicas of the seven versions of the Australian Military Forces (Army) Rising Sun hat badge from 1902 to the current version from 1991. The badges are mounted on a foam and black cloth background. The Rising Sun badges are able to be removed from the cloth background. Printed in black ink on the inside cover of the box is a history guide to the badges from 1902 to the current deisign. An early version of the Rising Sun badge containing bayonet and swords mounted over a crown with a rising sun background is also printed on the inside cover. Mounted on the outside of the front of the box is a gold coloured larger version of the current version of the Rising Sun badge. This family of wheeled armoured vehicles came into use in Australian Army including 8/13 VMR circa 1960. They were phased out and replaced with M113 track vehicles, Technical manuals and User Handbooks were essential equipment for Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RAEME) tradesmen permanently attached to Armoured Corps regiments as Light Aid Detachments (LAD) or Tech Support Troop (TST) and were responsible for repairs and maintenance of a nature beyond the expertise of AFV crewmen and just short of major rebuilds undertaken by Base Workshop detachments.Part of a collection of workshop manuals and user handbooks relating to equipment on issue to 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles during the latter half of the twentieth century.Two copies of pale green colour soft cover manual, 170 pages with annexures, being Saracen Mk1 APC Provisional User Handbook. Headwear - Cap, Peaked, US Army Dress Blue
Believed to be US Army Infantry dress blue uniform cap introduced in 1954 Black peaked cap with patent leather peak. Peak is blue underside, and black upper with a row of gold oak leaves and thin leather edging. Black leather chip-strap is secured by two gilt buttons, 17 mm diameter, embossed with a hunting horn surrounded by a wreath of laurel. The sky blue hatband is edged with 2 mm wide gold embroidery. The inner headband is brown leather-like material and the lining is red fabric.Under the lining a metal tab supports the crown at the front of the cap and crown edge is reinforced by wire. Puffing Billy Railway
Machine - Steam Locomotive, 1912
12A Built in 1912 and painted Canadian red & dark brown, this locomotive was issued to the Colac to Crowes line, but over the years saw service on all four lines. It was withdrawn from service in 1954 at Moe and sent to Newport Workshops for storage where it remained until 1972. After overhaul at Ballarat North Workshops, it was brought to Belgrave in 1973 where it saw continuous service until withdrawn in 1982 for a complete rebuild. It was returned to service in 1992 in close to its early 1940s condition with all-over Black livery. It will be returned to its post WWI condition with low bunker, narrow ash chute, steel cowcatcher and Canadian red livery.
