Alexander Black was a painter and decorator who operated a business in Timor St below Swintons. This ledger has entries which relate to work completed at the time including the Kirkstall school, Miss Murray of Waikato, W Fletcher, tender to Fritz Landman and work on St John’s Presbyterian Church, the Warrnambool Race Club and works for J.J Forrester.This ledger provides a snapshot of daily life in the early 1900’s and documents the type of work completed by tradesman and their associated costs. It lists a number of people and organisations which are of historical interest to Warrnambool and district.Long thin rectangular ledger book. "Last Mail carried by tram in NSW Special Commemorative Trip Operated by the NSW Tramway Historical Assn. during last week of Trams in NSW 19 February 1961". Literary work - "Glorious toil" and "The crusaders" by John Ellison
Leslie John Ellison was born in Horsham in 1920. He was the son of Charles Ellifson (1892-1969) and Lilly May Rogers (1897-!966). He became a teacher and in the 1940s he dropped the "f" from his surname. In 1949 he married Aileen Beryl Ervin (6/3/1924-24/5/2004) John was interested in history and specially in Christian church history. He recorded his thoughts and research in writing. John died 25/7/1981 and is buried with his wife at the Kangaroo Flat Cemetery. Part of the Aileen and John Ellison collection.Fourteen pages handwritten essay on the crusades and an exercise book with the first chapter of the historical novel "Glorious Toil". Collection of thirty-nine postcards donated by Jillian Rigby which had been owned by her grandparents, George and Edith Weir, who from c.1917 lived at 84 Princess Street, Kew. The mostly 'mint' postcards were purchased in Victoria and while travelling overseas. The sole dated postcard is dated from 1929. The postcards are numbered sequentially from 2017.0058.01-39. The remainder of the collection donated by Jill Rigby which was once owned by the Weirs of Broken Hill and Kew consist of costumes, costume accessories, photographs, and documents.The postcards in the Weir collection, especially those purchased on a trip or trips to the mother country, i.e. United Kingdom, represent a representative sample of sites that were considered significant to those Australians undertaking a reverse grand tour by member of the erstwhile colonies. Those postcards which are early views of Melbourne must have been produced commercially for some decades from the early part of the 20th century.River Mersey - The End of the Voyage.
