Portable candleholders were commonly in use in Australian homes in the 1800s. Candles were very expensive in Australia and often were not available in stores. However, after 1850 the price of candles was reduced and they became readily available throughout Australia. Candleholders were popular as they protected furniture from hot wax. The dish around the candle stem collected the hot wax that could be reused later. When carrying the candleholder, the dish also protected the hand from the hot wax. This candle-holder is an example of an item commonly used before electricity was connected to the area.The candleholder is a hollowed round,saucer-shape with a ring finger-grip on the side. Grave of William Poulter (died 22/02/1874) and Mary Poulter [nee Frost] (died 24/101883) in Plot#C13 Greensborough Cemetery.Greensborough Cemetery was created when land was given for the cemetery by Mr William Poulter, a local settler, about 1864. The 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) was raised in 1920 as part of the 3rd Cavalry Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Division, Citizen Military Forces, with Headquarters at Seymour and depots along the Goulburn Valley from Mansfield to Tocumwal in southern NSW. In December 1941, 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) converted from horse to mechanised, initially as 20th Motor Regiment. In 1943 redesignated 20th Pioneer Battalion and deployed to Merauke, Dutch New Guinea. The party was organised on the Saturday 8 December 1928, 3pm. Captain Charles Alfred Melbourne Derham, son of Frederick Thomas Derham, partner and managing director of Swallow & Ariell Pty Ltd (biscuit company in 1854 in Port Melbourne). The Derham family had been involved with the Port Melbourne mission since the beginning as the factory was producing "ship biscuits". The company was renowned for its patriotic fundraising campaigns during both world wars. They also supplied the mission with plum puddings on every Christmas events. Captain C.A.M Derham enlisted in 1915 and was discharged in 1919. The same year he married Eileen Cuscaden sister of Beatrice Cuscaden (Honorary Secretary of the South Yarra branch of the LHLG), and daughter of Dr George Cuscaden, previously ship surgeon, honorary surgeon of the Women's Hospital and director of Swallow & Ariell. The photograph was published in the 1928 Annual Report. This booklet gives information on the Cavenett families from 1840 to 1970. John and Eliza Cavenett with four children set sail from England to Adelaide in 1840 but Eliza and one child died on the voyage. John Cavenett married again and settled in Adelaide. Most descendants of John Cavenett that are mentioned in the booklet also lived in South Australia but some settled later in Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia. The book has been produced by Kingsley Ireland. This book is of some interest as an example of a family history written by a descendant of the pioneer family. As far as can be ascertained it does not have any local significance. This is soft cover booklet of 41 pages. The cover has a cream-coloured background with sepia-coloured photographs of three Cavenett family members on the front cover and a sepia-coloured reproduction of an S.T. Gill sketch on the back cover. The book contains a Foreword, a Preamble, information on members of the Cavenatt families, an Appendix and a Surname Index.
