In 1991, the Australian Electric Traction Association (AETA) produced 7 different options to provide public transport to the Doncaster area. See reference for background to the proposals. Six of the seven options have been found and collected. Each option provides a summary, costing based in a scope of works. The Options were: 1 - Light Rail to Doncaster Shoppingtown via Eastern Freeway/Doncaster Road 2 - Light rail to Mitcham Road/Springvale Road 3 - High-performance train to Doncaster Shoppingtown via Victoria Park station Eastern Freeway/Doncaster Road 4 - Heavy rail to Doncaster Shoppingtown via Eastern Freeway to Bulleen Road and underground to Shoppingtown 5 - Heavy Rail to Blackburn Road/George St East Doncaster 7 - Extension of the Camberwell Tram (72) along Burke Road from Cotham Road to Doncaster Road. Pressed metal uniform badge for the Melbourne Tramways Board, workshop staff, available all lines. Round pressed steel badge with the words "All Lines" pressed into the badge around the top portion of the badge, the word "Car Works" and number "25" pressed into the lower half of the badge -with small horizontal lines within the individual letters. Has a brass finish with the Melbourne Tramways Board logo in the lower part of the badge. On rear badge two metal lugs have been soldered onto the badge and a leather strap with a button hole cut into to enable it to be worn on a uniform. Leather strap secured with wire. Used possibly from mid 1910's when the Board was formed until it was replaced by the MMTB in 1921. Light grey card folder manufactured by the Roneo Printing Works of Rumford England with the file title "Fire Switches, glued to the top of the folder on the inside back cover. Contains many memos from the MMTB Traffic Managers, Depot Managers about the arrangements for the visit of the Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of York in April 1927. Also contains memo re cable tram arrangements for this event from Port Melbourne depot, arrangements for Christmas holidays and other holidays from about 1924 to 1944, including a map of the procession and printed programs by the Government Printer. Set of 14 black and white photographs of the use of former sleeper transport car, W2 485 - see page 80 of Destination City 5th Edition for more details of the tram. Tram body being used to train emergency staff how to recover a tramcar that had been tipped over onto its side. DC5, notes it was stored at Preston workshops and later "used an instruction car to train emergency crews in the righting of the overturned trams. It was overturned several times in this role." Note: - would have been at the time, probably the only way to do this, as mobile cranes were only just starting to be developed. Truck is an AEC built Matador truck. Set of four black and white prints of W2 221 derailed at South Melbourne tram depot, late 1960's? This tram was used a training vehicle for recovery crews to re-rail trams. Again possibly an early use of this vehicle as such - has "Kenric Best for Boys wear" sign on one end, and a "Collision not to be moved" Auxiliary board on the other end. Provides in a Q & A format, instructions to drivers in electric car operation, photos of various types of controllers, an A.B.C. for tramways drivers - "always" points to remember and has a reference index. Copy 1 - has telephone numbers of Training School and specific pointers re Regulations 106 and 107 and some of the Q&A have been circled in blue. This copy was imaged.
