The Anzac Commemorative Medallion was instituted 1967. It was awarded to surviving members of the Australian forces who served on the Gallipoli Peninsula, or in direct support of the operations from close off shore, at any time during the period from the first Anzac Day in April 1915 to the date of final evacuation in January 1916. Next of kin, or other entitled persons, are entitled to receive the medallion on behalf of their relatives if the medallion has not been issued. Design The medallion is cast in bronze and is approximately 75 millimetres high and 50 millimetres wide. The obverse of the medallion depicts Simpson and his donkey carrying a wounded soldier to safety. It is bordered on the lower half by a laurel wreath above the word ANZAC. The reverse shows a map in relief of Australia and New Zealand superimposed by the Southern Cross. The lower half is bordered by New Zealand fern leaves. The name and initials of the recipient is engraved on the reverse. The medallion is issued in a presentation box. Badge Surviving members were also issued with a lapel badge in the form of a small replica of the medallion to recognise their Gallipoli service. The Warrnambool Hot Rod Club was formed in 1958 at the Warrnambool racecourse. In 1969 the Club transferred to a site on the Princes Highway. Today the Club is the Premier Speedway Club and the major annual event is the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic. The Battle of Bataan is famous in history as one of the last stands of American and Filipino soldiers before they were overwhelmed by the Japanese Forces in WW11. The Bataan Death March was named after the province where the infamous March started. The Springthorpe Memorial is an elaborate late 19th century memorial located within Boroondara General Cemetery. Harold Desbrowe-Annear designed the memorial for the Melbourne doctor John Springthorpe, in honour of the doctor’s wife. Construction began in 1897, and the memorial was unveiled in 1901. On the sarcophagus is sculpted group of figures by Bertram Mackennal. A Legacy ceremony at the Shrine of Remembrance. One of the annual "Anzac Commemoration Ceremony for Students" events, usually held just prior to ANZAC Day.
