Tatura Irrigation & Wartime Camps Museum
Photograph - copy, Lanzinger Brick, Original brick 1941
The inscription in the brick was made by Lanzinger a German internee who escaped several times from Camp 1, recaptured and placed in Camp 4 gaol. The brick was recovered by the Stanhope Museum, where it is now on display. The curator of the Museum contacted Tatura Museum for information about Lanzinger, and was advised that Lanzinger's daughter ( Ann Flegel) had visited Tatura Museum and Camp 1, from Canada. A photo of the brick was forwarded from Stanhope to Flegels, who in turn forwarded it to Josef Friedrich whom she had made contact with through the Tatura Museum. Friedrich then forwarded a copy of the photo to Tatura Museum.Colour photo of common red brick with inscriptions carved by and named Lanzinger, a date in 1941,and two swastikas.lanzinger escape, camp 1, camp 4 gaol, photography, photograph, slides, film -

City of Greater Bendigo - Civic Collection
Work on paper - Architectural Drawing, City of Bendigo, Proposed Brick Residence at Bendigo Abbatoirs (sic) for the Bendigo City Council, Not dated
Situated at 47 Lansell Street, Bendigo, the original 1911-12 Charles D'Ebro designed brick Bendigo Municipal Abattoir, comprising twin slaughter and hanging rooms for cattle, sheep and pigs, and two smaller ancillary brick buildings. After the buildings were acquired by the Country Roads Board in 1945, a substantial but sympathetic addition was made to the south-eastern end of the old cattle abattoir. The abattoir is significant for historic, architectural and technical reasons at a state level. as a rare surviving municipal abattoir, and represents the development of hygienic slaughtering through municipal regulations, thus improving standards of public health in Victoria. It is historically significant to the City of Greater Bendigo as a key to the primary production industry that centred on this precinct from the 1860s to the mid 1990s; they are an important surviving component of one of the largest regional livestock markets in Victoria. D'Ebro was critically influential in the development of industrial and in particular meat processing buildings, designing major freezing works and abattoirs throughout Victoria and Australia.(Source, National Trust Database). The Bendigo facility finally closed in 1945, when all slaughtering for local consumption passed to a joint export and local slaughtering facility at the Bendigo Inland Meat Authority. Alfred Hospital Nurses League - Nursing Archive
Memorabilia - Six Bricks saved from the Main Nurses Home demolished in 1996, c 1922
The Main Nurses' Home at the Alfred was built in 1922 and all student nurses had to 'live-in' at the hospital until restrictions were eased in the mid 1970s. Nurse training ceased at the Alfred in 1992 and the Nurses' Home was demolished overnight with no notification to staff in 1996. The nurses who managed to save these bricks had difficulty accessing the site and no help from anyone. The nurses home was a special part of every student nurse's life. They laughed, cried, climbed in windows at 6am when they were supposed to have been in bed at 10pm the night before, debriefed each other and generally formed life long friendships, as well as a life long love/hate relationship with vegemite bread crusts for supper. Six bricks saved from that iconic building is heart breaking.Six bricks Brick a & b. City bricks Brick e - f Holded bricksnurses' home, alfred hospital -

Tool, Brick mould and brick, 1) UNKNOWN .2) c.1888
John Nunn was one of the earliest brickmakers on record in Ballarat and has a road named for him - Nunn Street - where he resided..1) An oblong-shaped timber box open at top. Only butt joints are used. Iron strapping wraps around the vertical pieces of timber and across the top edge of the box. The longest pieces of vertical timber protrude past the end and are shaped like solid handles - one is broken. On each end piece there are small, blank iron plates held with screws. The base piece of timber is made from two different width weatherboard-style timbers. The nails in the base piece appear to be hand-made. Remnants of clay still line the interior. .2) Light brown brick. Please note: Brick mould and brick may be from different sources..1) Handwritten (possibly in ink) on one long side: MR H. G. SMITH ...(illegible) Ballarat .2) Imprinted: J. NUNNjohn nunn, j nunn, brick, mould, brick mould, industrial mould, brickmaker, ballarat, clay, ceramics -
