Ceremonial object - Credence, In memory of Alice (Micky) Nicholls, 1975
Alice (Micky) Nicholls was a voluntary helper for the Flying Angel League for a number of years together with her sister Gwen. The memorial plaque was dedicated to her in December, 1975. The Episcopal Seal was affixes on the Faculty on 4 February 1976. Hans Walter von Gruenewaldt was a German POW who used his artistic ability to paint several large mural caricatures while he was held at Camp 13 at Murchison. The technique he used was colourful house paint, painted directly onto the walls of the German mess hut, reading room and recreation hall in compound 13D. The paintings were completed over a duration of six years (1941-1946). CEMA Art Collection. Part of "A Community View" 150 years in Portland Screenprint Exhibition. Part of Angela Gee Residency 1983 and 1984.Laminated screenprint of a landscape with several social comments. The top of the work features a Micky Mouse symbol with dollar signs in his eyes and a speech bubble which says "We'll move the Heathland". To the left is text stating "ALCOA AIMS TO MOVE THE HEATHLAND. "AGE" 5-9-80". In the centre of the work vegetation burns, aboriginal people wave and a tractor drives below the text "THEY BURNT THE HEATHLAND 4-12-80". The lower section of the work shows two men with a red megaphone. A speech bubble comes from the megaphone which states, "I UNDERSTAND YOUR ANGUISH!" Set of 17 Souvenir tickets for each of the painted trams, issued at the time of the launch - first day ticket. Each ticket corresponds to the painted tram number. A project of the Victorian Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Arts. Printed on gloss card except for ticket No. 1, 9. Tickets 1 to 8 have plain backs. Each ticket has the tram number in a sketch of the front of a tram. These are for the second series of Transporting Art trams. Tickets 9 to 14 - has a welcome aboard message and notes re the sponsorship of the project. Tickets 15 to 17 - welcome message and that this tram is one of six to be supported by Vic Health Foundation. Has their logo on the rear. Items in the collection were largely produced for, or purchased by women in Melbourne, and includes examples of outerwear, protective wear, nightwear, underwear and costume accessories.Late Victorian black silk taffeta cape featuring extensive use of high quality guipure lace on the front and at the back. While the lace is in excellent condition, there is extensive splitting of the silk fabric. Clothing, Women's Beaded Black Silk & Tulle Bodice, 1900s
The Fashion & Design collection of the Kew Historical Society includes examples of women’s, men’s, children’s and infants’ clothing from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Items in the collection were largely produced for, or purchased by women in Melbourne, and includes examples of outerwear, protective wear, nightwear, underwear and costume accessories.Late Victorian black cotton bodice with narrow sleeves. The creator of the bodice has made extensive use of beading at the front and on the sleeves. The bodice is unusual in that it includes an overlay at the front of black sequined tulle over a cream silk insert. The bodice has a black velvet waistband. The edging of the bodice includes pin tucking. Two long 'swallow tails' of lace (sic) hang from the neck of the bodice at the front. The Fashion & Design collection of the Kew Historical Society includes examples of women’s, men’s, children’s and infants’ clothing from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Items in the collection were largely produced for, or purchased by women in Melbourne, and includes examples of outerwear, protective wear, nightwear, underwear and costume accessories.Late Victorian black silk damask outfit comprising a flared skirt and a short bodice. The high necked bodice reflects changing fashions at the turn of the 20th Century in that the silk fabric on the bosom is lightly gathered. The sleeves are pleated at the elbow. The skirt is lined with a black cotton lining. The neckline of the bodice includes a narrow band of pale cream lace.
