Souvenirs collected by a member of BCOF in Japan Post WW2. Item in collection of "RICHARD WILLIAM McGILVERY". RAAF. Refer Cat No. 7287P for his service details, photos and awards.Silver heavy metal cigarette box, rectangular shape with curved bowl shape inside. Lid on top has engraved series of Japanese images (Buildings and Deer in gold, gate in red and tree branch in silver). Word - possibly MIYAYIMO engraved into bottom left corner. Collars and box
Detachable collars enclosed in a leather box such as this one were used in the 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly by men in the business and clerical professions. The collars were attached by studs or buttons to a shirt. The collars were removed prior to shirt washing the shirt. The leather box was most useful for travelling. Detachable collars could still be used today particularly by clergymen. Two are named E R Twomey.This box and collars are retained as an example of vintage men's wear. It will be useful for display.A brown leather cylindrical case with a strap and buckle. It has white thread stitching around the rim and upper edge of the lid, the slot for the buckle, the rim and lower edge of the base . Inside are four detachable white winged collars for wearing with a shirt. Each has three holes, one for a button and two for a stud or for buttons at the front, two wings and a curved slot at the back.They are made of very fine cotton and linen.002215.1 J.T. Tool - Reaper/binder, McCormick Deering
The reaper binder was a harvesting machine used to cut crops and bind it into sheaves. The reaper binder was invented by Cyrus Hall McCormick in 1831. Early binders were horsedrawn and the sheaves were bound using wire. William Deering later invented a binder that tied the sheaves with string. McCormick Deering was the trademark name of a line of farm machinery manufactured by the International Harvester Co. The company was founded in 1923. Textile - ANCIENT ORDER OF FORESTERS COLLECTION: SASH
Green silk sash, Ancient Order of Foresters. Court King of the Forest 3770. Sash has embroidered all seeing eye, a deer's head, a shield divided into four, the top left corner has shaking hands, the top right has three deer, one above the other, the bottom left has a sheep?, and a horn separated by a red band, and the bottom right has a quiver, an arrow and a horn. In the centre are three arrows in front of a horn. On each side is a man dressed in yellow boots, white trousers,slightly different green jackets, and green hats with white feathers. One man has a bow and arrow and the other has a club and a dog is behind him. Underneath are four women circling the top part of a sphere above the words 'Unity Benevolence and Concord. Underneath is Ancient Order of Foresters, then there is some yellow and brown filigree above Court King fo the Forest. 3770. The collection contains SEVEN ITEMS of clothing from the former SUNSHINE TECHNICAL SCHOOL of which images of SIX are individually displayed here. The clothing items are: (1) Grey wool/nylon V-neck jumper with green and red stripes bordered by thin black stripes, around neck, waist and cuffs. (2) Black cap with green panel containing a red STS logo on front of cap. (3) Green acrylic/nylon sleeveless football guernsey with wide red V-shaped band on front.
