The Scalebuoy was invented after World War 1 by Richard Hartley Smith Abbott, a well known Bendigo businessman.

Physical description

Spherical glass bulb containing a small amount of mercury. This is enclosed in a wire frame consisting of 6 ribs.
The frame is clamped to an electroplated handle.

Inscriptions & markings

On one side of the glass bulb is engraved 'A.C. Scalebuoy' and on the other side 'Bendigo Electronic Coy. Patd.'
