A timber box with lid. Red maltese cross painted on the lid with a slit across for coin donation. In front of the box is a key hole and ALFRED HOSPITAL painted in white over a red background. Varnish has worn off around the box.

When a visitor came through the main hospital entrance there was a collection box on the turnstile and a porter in attendance.6 pence or some other coins was the fee charged for visitors.
