Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka (M.A.D.E) Ballarat, VIC

The Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka (M.A.D.E) is located on the historic site of the Eureka Rebellion in Ballarat, a 1.5-hour drive west of Melbourne.

M.A.D.E is a visitor immersive experience which merges storytelling and objects with digital activation to explore the meaning and tools of democracy in the past and present. The Eureka Story is placed within this democratic theme and context.

With the evocative Eureka Flag as its centrepiece, M.A.D.E’s interactive and immersive exhibitions explore the evolution and the future of democracy – looking at culture, civics, history and citizenship. M.A.D.E has interactive exhibits, two formal education spaces, a purpose-built display gallery for the Eureka Flag, a theatre that seats up to 120, a café, gift shop, all situated within the beautiful Eureka Memorial Gardens.

Sunflowers instead of missiles in the soil would ensure peace for future generations; U.S. Secretary of Defence William Perry, as he joined Russian and Ukrainian defence ministers to plant sunflowers on a former missile base.
