The manuscripts, photographs, maps, and documents were sourced by her from both family and local collections or produced as references for her print publications. Many were directly used by Rogers in writing ‘Lovely Old Homes of Kew’ (1961) and 'A History of Kew' (1973), or the numerous articles on local history that she produced for suburban newspapers. Most of the photographs in the collection include detailed annotations in her hand. The Rogers Collection provides a comprehensive insight into the working habits of a historian in the 1960s and 1970s. Together it forms the largest privately-donated collection within the archives of the Kew Historical Society.A photographic reproduction of a plan in the Vale Collection of the State Library of Victoria showing William Derricks land in the area bordered by Bulleen Road (High Street); Cotham Road and Union Street. Plan, Burrumbeep, 1884, 16/10/1884
Auctions of Crown land were introduced in the Colony of Victoria from 1851 to encourage settlers to occupy and work the land. Many squatters purchased land at auction at the upset (minimum) price of £1 per acre. In some areas where demand was high, such as the goldfields, the price realised at auction was much more. Land was put up for sale in the study area on the Burrumbeep run in May 1855, on the Lexington run in 1857, and on the Gorrinn run in 1858. (http://www.ararat.vic.gov.au/library/document/thermatics.pdf, accessed 27 January 2015) For 70 years or more, Yalla-y-Poora, Burrumbeep, Edgarley, Mount William and Narrapumelap ranked in the leading wool producers in Victoria. 1 Stud owners at Yalla-y-Poora, Eurambeen, Burrumbeep and Challicum crossed merino sheep with sheep descended from John Macarthur's Camden Park in New South Wales. (http://www.ararat.vic.gov.au/library/document/thermatics.pdf, accessed 27 January 2015) In what was to become the Ararat Mining Division, gold was discovered in May 1854 on the Burrumbeep run at a place that became known as Pinky Point on the Mount William goldfield. By 21 June 1854, between 600 and 1,000 people had arrived. (http://www.ararat.vic.gov.au/library/document/thermatics.pdf, accessed 27 January 2015)\ Town allotment plan for Burrumbeep. Kew Historical Society Inc
Plan, F R Simms & Son, Land for Private Sale: Cnr Victor Avenue and Mont Victor Road, Kew, 1950-1960
George Rimington established The Parkhill Nursery in 1877. By 1910, it was more commonly known as Rimington’s Nurseries and well known for its sale of violets. After World War II, Rimington’s Nurseries were gradually subdivided and sold. The 38 allotments were released in sections, including lots 34 to 36 on the corner of Mont Victor Road and Victor Avenue. Previous lots in the subdivision had bordered Burke Road, Rimington Avenue, Heather Grove, and Stoke Avenue. The selling point as it had been in comparable estates for a century were the proximity to transport, schools and churches, as well as the high location and excellent views. The subdivision plan shows most of the lots in the entire subdivision: 1-11, 13-26, and 34-38. Presumably, lot 12 and lots 27-33 were still to be released.Subdivision plans are historically important documents used as evidence of the growth of suburbs in Australia. They frequently provide information about when the land was sold on which a built structure was subsequently constructed as well as evidence relating to surveyors and real estate and financial agents. The numerous subdivision plans in the Kew Historical Society's collection represent working documents, ranging from the initial sketches made in planning a subdivision to printed plans on which auctioneers or agents listed the prices for which individual lots were sold. In a number of cases, the reverse of a subdivision plan in the collection includes a photograph of a house that was also for sale by the agent. These photographs provide significant heritage information relating house design and decoration, fencing and household gardens.Subdivision plan advertising five superb home sites among lots in Burke Road, Stoke Avenue, Victor Avenue, Mont Victor Road and Heather Grove.subdivision plans - kew, rimington avenue -- kew (vic.), heather grove -- kew (vic), stoke avenue -- kew (vic.), burke road -- kew (vic.), mont victor road -- kew (vic.) -

Sheet music, A sprig of boronia, 1916
This is an early 20th century musical composition by a leading Tasmanian composer, Florence Hull (Mrs Arthur Kenny). It is a sentimental song as the ‘sprig of boronia’ is a withered one, kept as a relic of some past event. This music was printed in the Victorian School Paper for Grades 7 and 8 in 1918 and the proceeds of copies of one of the editions of this work were donated to the Hawthorn Red Cross in Melbourne. Florence Hull’s musical works and memoirs are in the Tasmanian Archives. Paul Dufault, who sang this song, was a leading Canadian tenor who toured Australia and Europe. He died in 1930 aged 57. This sheet music has significance as it was composed by a Tasmanian woman in the early 20th century and it represents the type of music popular in concert halls at the time. It has been in the Warrnambool and District Historical Society collection for many years. This is a four page piece of sheet music (cover plus two pages of music). The paper is cream-coloured, discoloured in places, with brown print on the back of the cover and black notation on the music pages. The front cover is in brown, yellow and green tonings, with a chromolithographic illustration of a Boronia flower spray and some music bars. The back of the cover has information on eight of Florence Hull’s other compositions with comments by critics. The pages have been torn and mended with adhesive tape.Front Cover: ‘Sung by Paul Dufault’ ‘A Sprig of Boronia’ ‘Music by Florence Hull’ ‘Copyright, Price 2/- nett, Published by F. M. Mount Evelyn History Group
Photo (framed) L Morrison, Seated portrait of Mrs Louisa Morrison nee Haag (?), c. 1940
This item was donated as a photograph of Louisa Morrison. Louisa (or Luisa) Rosanna Morrison nee Haag came from an early settler family in the farming community of Wandin. The woman photographed is in her old age. If this is indeed Louisa Morrison, the photograph would date from the early 1940s, since she died in 1946 at the age of 70. However the costume and the style of the photo suggest an earlier date, possibly the early 1900s. This could be Louisa's mother, Emma Martha Haynes, or mother-in-law Margaret (McNeil) Morrison. The woman is shown in a garden, probably because the family were farmers/orchardists. Louisa married Daniel McNeil Morrison, who was nine years her senior , in 1900. They had four children and farmed Morrisons' Orchard in Old Hereford Road, Mt Evelyn. The Morrison home was to become the important community house in Mt Evelyn, Morrison House. Morrison Reserve is part of their land, as was Yarra Hills Secondary College, Mt Evelyn Special Developmental School and the Reserve and Athletics facilities, including a tennis club. In 1981 the land title was changed to the Shire of Lillydale, who purchased the land and established the Morrison House Community House from 1976 (ie before they legally owned the land). This picture is of social significance as it is the only reputed picture of Louisa Morrison nee Haag.Brown round cornered frame with gold colour on inner frame. Painted plaster on frame chipped on top right. Coloured (painted) photograph of seated woman in upholstered chair with large brown cushion behind her. Garden setting. Black floor length dress, high necked, long sleeved. White cap on head. White cloth showing at neck.Bottom right hand corner, signature "F. RAPHAEL".
