Ceramic - Cheese Dome, Prior to 1950
Over 1500 pottery firms have operated in Stoke-on-Trent since the early 1700's Some lasted only a few years and some for well over 200 years. Some potters built and owned their own works. Many others were tenants in works built by others and a succession of potters occupied the same works. It was also a common practice for a works to be split between two different pottery companies or for a larger manufacturer to let out a smaller section of his works to a potter who would make wares which were not of interest to the pot works owner. Some potters purchased 'blanks' from other manufacturers and put their own decoration on them some items have two back stamps some have no marks at all. This adds to the confusion and frustration of trying to trace details of a particular manufacturer such as the subject item.Item at this time appears to be an early example of British ironstone earthenware that could possibly be a Staffordshire piece but cannot be associated with an historical event, person or manufacturer, provenance is therefore unknown, as a result the subject item assessed as a collection asset given it was produced before 1950.Cheese dome round white ironstone, with flat base and a bell lid with ornate handle white Decorative relief floral design date letter "A" impressed in baseflagstaff hill, warrnambool, shipwrecked coast, flagstaff hill maritime museum, flagstaff hill maritime village, great ocean road, ceramic dish, dish, kitchen ware, covered dish, ironstone cheese dome -

Made by the City of Port Melbourne for the demonstrations before and after the forced amalgamation by the Jeff Kennett State Government of the City of Port Melbourne with the Cities of South Melbourne and St Kilda to form the City of Port Phillip. First demonstation was against the City of Melbourne Act which excised 42% of Port Melbourne's rate base (Fishermens Bend) and so laid the groundwork for amalgamation afterwards because Port Melbourne could not survive on the remaining rates. Decorative object - Military Carriages, Chas W Davis, Unknown
The collection of thirteen model horse drawn vehicles were carefully handmade by Mr Chas W Davis 1925 - 2002. He was a talented artist and saw doctor. These models are of single horse drawn military gun carriages and accessories.Three gun carriages: 1. A brown four wheeled wooden model of a gun carriage for military use with a white horse. The carriage wheels have black rims with grey painted spokes. There is a brown storage box at the front for the driver with a brown vinyl padded seat.Three wooden slats form the footrest. A gun cleaning rod and lighter rod are attached to the back of the narrow support tray towards the back wheels. The saddled horse is linked to the carriage by a wooden shaft. A gun carriage is a frame and mount that supports the gun barrel of an artillery piece allowing it to be maneuvered and fired. These platforms often had wheels so that the artillery pieces could be moved more easily. 2. A brown large two wheeled gun carriage with no horse. The wheels have grey painted spokes and black rims. There is a cleaning rod and a lighting rod attached to the carriage shaft near the wheels. An additional accessory is included of a black vinyl saddle with lambswool lining as well as clips for attaching to the horse tack. 3. A grey two large wheeled gun carriage with no horse. The wheels have grey painted spokes and black rims. There is a cleaning rod and a lighting rod attached to the carriage shaft near the wheels. There is a chain to attach the carriage to the horse tack.56 VIR (3rd VIR)military vehicles, military models, gun carriages, military equipment -

Print, Arthur Willmore et al, The Old & New Home Stations, Victoria (Bontharambo, Wangaratta), 1873-1876
This etching by British engraver Arthur Willmore was created from Russian born artist Nicholas Chevalier’s original watercolour landscape of Bontharambo, Wangaratta (Chevalier’s watercolour is held in the collection of the National Library of Australia). Chevalier moved to Australia during the Colonial period and is famous for his landscape paintings, which were most commonly commissioned by wealthy landowners or merchants wanting to record their material success. Bontharambo is a historic property located in Wangaratta which was made famous by pastoralist Joseph Docker who took up the Bontharambo run in 1838 and has remained in the family since. The historic homestead on the property was built between 1857-1859 and was designed by architect Thomas Watts.ColonialWangaratta Art Gallery CollectionA rectangular landscape etching of the homes on Bontharambo station printed in black ink on off-white paper.Obverse: N.
