Drawing - Property Illustration, 64 Mason Street, Hawthorn, 1993
'After training as a Cartographic Draftsman within the mining industry, I worked as a property illustrator for real estate firms in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne for 23 years from 1983. I initially photographed houses with a Polaroid camera and made a 'thumbnail' sketch while there. The photos were used to scale off a sketch in pencil and then that sketch was overlaid with drafting film and the 'pen and ink' completed. The pens I used were the Rotring ‘Rapidigraph’ drafting pens. The ink was also made by Rotring (German). The film was ‘Rapidraw’, polyester drafting film, double matte. It takes a very fine line and doesn’t bleed. As well as house sketches, there were often floor plans and site plans ordered. Aerial sketches were ordered when the property needed an overall view.' Mixed media - Placard, Anti-amalgamation protests, 1993
Made by the City of Port Melbourne for the demonstrations before and after the forced amalgamation by the Jeff Kennett State Government of the City of Port Melbourne with the Cities of South Melbourne and St Kilda to form the City of Port Phillip. First demonstation was against the City of Melbourne Act which excised 42% of Port Melbourne's rate base (Fishermens Bend) and so laid the groundwork for amalgamation afterwards because Port Melbourne could not survive on the remaining rates. Refer to Pat Grainger, Liana and David ThompsonWhite cardboard attached to a wooden stick with hand lettered anti-amalgamation slogan in black. Wodonga & District Historical Society Inc
Work on paper - Haeusler Collection Handmade Child's Notebook c.1920s-1930s
The Wodonga Historical Society Haeusler Collection provides invaluable insight into life in late nineteenth and early twentieth century north east Victoria. The collection comprises manuscripts, personal artefacts used by the Haeusler family on their farm in Wodonga, and a set of glass negatives which offer a unique visual snapshot of the domestic and social lives of the Haeusler family and local Wodonga community. The Haeusler family migrated from Prussia (Germany) to South Australia in the 1840s and 1850s, before purchasing 100 acres of Crown Land made available under the Victorian Lands Act 1862 (also known as ‘Duffy’s Land Act’) in 1866 in what is now Wodonga West. The Haeusler family were one of several German families to migrate from South Australia to Wodonga in the 1860s. This handmade notebook was made by Alfred Haeusler (b.1922) during his childhood in Wodonga in the 1920s-1930s. The notebook is one of several objects in the Haeusler Collection concerning early childhood that provide insight into family and home life in early twentieth century Wodonga. The item is handmade and unique, with well documented provenance. It forms part of a significant and representative historical collection which reflects the local history of Wodonga. It contributes to our understanding of domestic and family life in early twentieth century Wodonga, as well as providing interpretative capacity for themes including local history, social history, and women’s history. A handmade child's notebook with small white pencil attached by a piece of string. A hand drawn purple flower is on the front cover of the notebook, and the pages are blank. Mixed media, Inga Hunter, Iboriis Bone Bag, 1986-1989
´This is the bag carried by the Keeper of the Dead, in which he keeps his relics of the dead, the ritual objects of his trade and the special talisman to protect both himself and his charges from harm. He casts the Bones in regular protection ceremonies, and is sought after secretly by people who want to find out the spiritual state of their loved ones. Some think he can predict the future with unfailing accuracy, though few dare to seek him out for such a purpose.´ -Inga Hunter -
