This is the same gimp as on the curtains. Probably saved because it was beautiful and expensive, but inherently decontextualised from its original historic use.The detached gimp has some (but perhaps not much) historical significance, having some association with highly decorated suite of curtains DAD-035-0001. Length of decorative upholstery gimp, unpicked from original curtains and wound onto a piece of card for storage. Gimp is a type of upholstery trim. a flat tape made up of threads or fine cords forming a wave or chain design, held in place by another wavy cord to produce an openwork, geometric braid. In this item, the cords are respectively light blue and metallic gold (much of it tarnished to silvery colour). The gimp is en suite with the set of curtains and their ornaments (qv) - another luxurious trimming for expensive furnishings.upholstery trimmings

Else Oertel and her daughter Else-Lore were interned in Camp 3A from 1940. Her husband was not interned as he was on a business trip to Germany when war broke out. Friedel Dehnel "Tante Fiffi" made the authentic Bavarian doll and clothes. Friedel, wife of Walter Dehnel, arrived as a young woman from Austria, working in the Victorian snowfields as a chef and was a champion skier. She then became a dressmaker for Melbourne society and insisted that she be interned to be with her husband. She made costumes for the internment camp plays and took over her husband's duties as a cook for Camp A when he was locked up for "insubordination". She was deported with her husband back to Germany after the war and cared for her orphaned nephews and nieces in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.Doll dressed in authentic Bavarian costume. This kind of beads was commonly worn by women in the early to mid 20th century. These strings of beads belonged to Mrs Alice Yardy, mother of Mrs. Jean Raper. No history or manufacturing provenance currently available.The subject item at this time cannot be associated with an historical event, person or place, provenance is unknown. The item is assessed as a collection asset as it is believed to have been produced after 1910 and before 1950.Container of pressed metal. The container has a broad, thin lip, and its round body flares outwards towards base, then tapers inwards to a short heel. A loop holding a metal ring is attached to the side, near the top. A decorative geometrical transfer pattern in blue and cream covers the body and inside of the lip. A silver-gilded mace in the shape of a lily head. The base has a silver fern and a silver gilt wattle, representing New Zealand and Australia respectively. The College shield on the stem is cast in relief with Argyle diamonds representing the Southern Cross. The charges in the four quadrants are proportionately larger representing the plants which anaesthetic drugs were traditionally derived from: opium poppy, curare vine, mandrake root, and cocaine plant. At the top of the mace is the "torch of life" with representations that link the College with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. The affronté helmet with closed visor signifies the role of the anaesthetist always being ready for action, and the hand of the carer holds the ankh entwined with the snake of Asclepius. commemorative, decorative, mace

Comparatively few weatherboard houses in Kew survived from the early years of settlement into the second half of the 20th century. One such property was ‘Reno’, which once stood on the east side of St John’s Parade. Its earliest recorded owner was the architect Samuel Cocking who lived there from c.1865 until his death in 1888. The original landholding was bordered by Cotham Road, Glenferrie Road, Wellington Street, and Charles Street. The southern portion of this land included a fine orchard, with many imported trees. The old summer house, at first in the orchard, was later removed to the house garden. The MMBW Detail Plan No.1576 (1904) shows the remaining portion of the original land holding, including a semi-circular pathway at the front, and garden features such as an aviary, a fountain and grotto, and a fernery. None of these are apparent in photographs dating from the 1960s, where the garden, which once included rare plants provided by Baron Von Mueller, surrounds the cottage in a tangled frenzy. Despite a ‘local significance’ classification by the National Trust, the house was demolished in 1977. Wallpaper fragment from ‘Reno’. This beaker (tumbler) was presented to the Faculty in 1977 by Professor Arthur Bull, as a token of esteem and friendship, from the Faculty of Anaesthetists College of Medicine of South Africa. It was in this year that Professor Bull was also awarded an honorary fellowship from ANZCA. Professor Arthur Barclay Bull was a pioneer of South African Anaesthesia, having played a major role in the specialty and research in anaesthesia from 1954. One of his achievements include the use of prolonged curarisation and IPPV for treating tetanus. In 1965 - 1967 the Taurus Blood Warmer was developed - named after Professor Bull - to prevent hypothermia after major blood transfusion. Not only was Professor Bull the presenter of this beaker, but also its maker. It is hand wrought from sterling silver recovered from discarded tracheostomy tubes. The maker has hallmarked the beaker with the initials A B.
