Newspaper - OLD VIOLET SHAFT - VIOLET ST. MINE 'BOILS' AGAIN
Newspaper article titled 'Violet St. Mine 'Boils' Again. A child walking near the shaft saw the ground collapse and shortly afterwards smoke drifting up. He told his parents who called the Bendigo Police. The area around the mouth of the saft was covered in cracks and seemed likely to collapse. Earlier a nearby resident had placed old iron and metal sheets over the area so that children would not walk on it. Once again children were attracted to it. Newspaper - JENNY FOLEY COLLECTION: EAGLEHAWK
Bendigo Advertiser "The way we were" from 1999. Eaglehawk: this photo is looking south over the Borough of Eaglehawk in 1875. After gold was discovered in Golden Square, it was inevitable prospectors would cut their way through the bush to what is now known as Eaglehawk. The legend says two prospectors in 1852, John Rooke and Joseph Crook, were looking for one of their horses, which had gone astray, when they stopped to rest. Where they stopped they found gold. After three weeks of digging, Crook and Rooke left the area with a massive 48 pounds in gold weight. It did not take long, approximately three years, before Eaglehawk had a population of 20,000.newspaper, bendigo advertiser, the way we were -

A newspaper article the work of the War Widows Guild, there is a mention of Legacy sending widows to the Guild. The War Widows Guild was founded by Mrs J M Vasey, the wife of Major-General Vasey. During the second world war she became secretary of the AIF Women's Association, a body which sought to help soldiers' wives. Her work with this body drew her attention to the plight of war widows. After Major-General George Alan Vasey died in an aircraft accident on 5 March 1945 she became a widow herself. At the end of the war Mrs Vasey founded the War Widows Guild. The Victorian War Widows Guild closed in 2021. Some items, including this board, were donated to the Legacy archive for preservation. Ruyton Girls' School
Newsletter, Ruyton Reports, 1988
The Ruyton Reporter (formerly known as Ruyton Reports) captures the essential Ruyton Girls' School experience for the broader school community. It has been produced since 1986.The record has strong historic significance as it pertains to one of the oldest girls' school in Victoria, Australia. Ruyton was founded in 1878 in the Bulleen Road, Kew, home of newly widowed Mrs Charlotte Anderson (now High Street South). Thus, the record can be used as a reference example for research into Victorian school history. It also gives insight into the types of activities and events undertaken at Ruyton Girls' School during the period of its production. The record's significance is further enhanced by its exceptionally well-documented provenance, having remained the property of Ruyton Girls' School since its production.Black and white newsletter printed on paper with staple binding. 8 pages.Front Page: Vol. 3 No. 1 / Vol. 3 No. 1 April, 1988 / Registered by Australia Post / Publication No. VBH8187 / R / RECTE ET FIDE LITER / RUYTON / 1878 - 1988 Reports / From Ruyton Girls' School / 12 Selbourne Road, Kew. 3101 / Telephone (03) 819 2422 / Stage One / Well / Underway / S2/7 /ruyton girls' school, ruyton, school, students, newsletter, ruyton reports, ruyton news, kew, victoria, melbourne, girls school -
