Slide - Photograph, St Andrews Primary School Banner, 1985
St Andrews Primary School was one of thirteen primary schools and one high school to participate in the banner project. A picture of the St Andrews Primary School banner was included in page 10 of The banner habits of the Eltham tribes : Eltham Shire "as we are" Community Banner Project report / by Jacky Talbot. The 'As We Are' Community Banner Project was the first major Community Arts project initiated and co-ordinated through the resources of the Shire of Eltham. It was originally conceived and inspired by a local textile artist, Tracey Naughton, who, together with the Community Services Manager of this local government council, made the idea a very concrete and flourishing reality. The project grew from the original fourteen or so intending participant groups to fifty-seven banners; expressions of those diverse groups' interests and identities. As a first major project it was rightly felt by Tracey Naughton, who became the Shire's first Community Arts Officer in March 1985, that it should be fully documented, so that an appraisal of the extensive growth of this community arts development process could be assessed. Given the time and money available to do this, Jacky Talbot, and her advisors, decided it was appropriate to select fifteen or twenty banners for detailed analysis. This was done by taping interviews with members of the chosen groups. The groups were chosen to cover all ages participating, from the toddlers in the Playhouse to our grand elder citizens in their Nursing Horne, and to cover a wide range of different types of groups - schools, scouts, churches, youth issue based, and the numerous women's groups of various combinations, localities and concerns. ·. Some groups who presented their banners for the culminating highlight of this project - the Exhibition, held at the Eltham Community Centre on October 9th, 1986, had no contact with the Shire or project co-ordinator, but heard about the project through the local news' networks or other participants. The extent of community participation was enormous. It involved hundreds and hundreds of people. It changed some people's lives, enlivened others. As a first step on a new road its success is notable. The 'As We Are' Community Banner Project took place in the Shire of Eltham and neighbouring environs for approximately 12 months, from October 1985.35mm colour positive transparency Mount - Cardbanners, st andrews primary school, banner project, community, emblems, flags, shire of eltham -

Slide - Ceremony: Bodalla Nursing Home, 32 Walpole Street, 1980
‘Bodalla’ at 32 Walpole Street, Kew was opened in August 1980 and run by Uniting Church Aged Care Services. It was located on the site of the first Congregational Church in Walpole Street which had functioned from 1860 to 1978. The church was demolished to create the nursing home, which was itself sold and redeveloped after 2009 as residential sites. In 2004, Denise Deerson interviewed residents of the aged care facility and published the interviews as a book - ‘Active Lives : life stories from Bodalla’. This slide, and a number of others were donated by Joy Stewart in 1980. The slides came from the collection of Joy Stewart’s mother, Mrs C Dickins.35mm colour transparency of a ceremony at the Bodalla Nursing Home [now demolished] at 32 Walpole Street, Kew during which a plaque was unveiled commemorating it as the site of the historic Congregational Church (1860-1978), demolished 1979. Slide - photograph, colour, Whittlesea Christ Church, Sunday School pupils. Parish Hall in the background, c.1956-1966
In 1863 a Whittlesea resident Thomas Wills donated fifteen acres of land to the Church of England for the use of promoting the Christian religion within the area. More specifically though Wills directed that part of this land was for the erection of a building for public worship and of a dwelling for the Minister duly appointed. Thomas Wills himself laid the foundation stone on 14 July 1864 and by August 1865 the building was completed. The Church was finally opened on Sunday 25th February 1866 by Bishop Perry of Melbourne who had stayed the weekend at “Braemore” the home of the Sherwins. The first Minister appointed by the Bishop was the Rev. W. McGennet from Bunninyong. The bell that originally hung in the tower was lowered in 1909 when its weight endangered the structure of the Church. Rev. William McGennett conducted his first service in Christ Church on 2nd March 1866. In the absence of the vicarage which was erected several years later the accommodation for Rev. McGennett was provided at Taylor’s Carriers Arms Hotel which stood at the corner of Jack’s Creek and Yea Roads. A brick vicarage was erected nearby, several years after the Church. Construction of stage one of the church hall commenced in 1955, with final completion in 1966. 35mm colour positive transparency (4 of 17) Card mount - Kodachrome Transparency whittlesea, christ church whittlesea, sunday school, church, children -

Slide - Kew Post Office and Court House, 1980
A civic campaign for new public offices developed in Kew in the 1880s. After much deliberation, the location chosen was the junction of Bulleen and Cotham Roads. The buildings were designed by George Watson and John Henry Harvey, architects within the Department of Public Works (Victoria). Building was commenced in 1887, and after one year, the buildings were opened. The Post Office was transferred to the new Commonwealth Government in 1901. The Police Station and Court House, sold by the Victorian Government to the City of Boroondara in 2007, are now a community cultural centre and performing arts venue. The buildings were listed on the Victorian Heritage Register Register (HO885) in 1991. They are historically and architecturally significant to the State of Victoria because Watson and Harvey's designs exhibit diversity in integrating civil offices, they accommodate the apex of road junctions, and they demonstrate a departure from the contemporaneously favoured High Victorian Classical to the Queen Anne style in the design of civic buildings. 35mm colour transparency of the Kew Post Office and Court House at the corner of High Street and Cotham Road. The building is a significant example of the English Queen Anne Revival style. Slide, Commercial, 1956-1957
Robin Boyd developed a close friendship with the founder of the Bauhaus in Weimar Germany, Walter Gropius, who had moved to the USA in the 1930s. Through this connection, Boyd was invited to be the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Bemis Professor at the School in the North American academic year 1956-7. Robin and Patricia Boyd, with their youngest daughter Suzy, were based in Cambridge, Massachusetts for the year. Boyd gave some lectures at MIT and he was also invited to give lectures at many other universities, allowing him to travel widely within the USA, especially on the East Coast. This gave him the opportunity to meet architects like Frank Lloyd Wright, Eero Saarinen, Paul Rudolph and many others, and visit the offices of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, and places like Taliesin and the General Motors Technical Center Detroit. On the way home, the Boyds visited London, Berlin, Paris and Le Corbusier’s Ronchamp Chapel in France.Colour slide in a mount.
