Slide, Operation Firewood - Eildon, 1960s
Colour slide of a dark red truck beside a pile of cut wood in a timber yard near Eildon. It was during Operation Firewood. Legatees would organise collection of wood from the country and distribute it to widows in metropolitan Melbourne. Other slides show the cutting and loading of wood and delivery to widows in metropolitan Melbourne. Was with many other slides taken in the 1950s and 1960s. The slides have been photographed to make digital images and moved to archive quality sleeves. In many cases the original images were not well focussed and the digital image the best available.A record of Legacy helping widows by sourcing, supplying and delivering firewood. The Flying Dogtor is a black and white cartoon series, consisting of line drawings, devised and written by Robin Boyd. He also created the initial drawings for all the characters. The Flying Dogtor series, consisting of 52 episodes, was devised and written by Robin Boyd between 1962-1964 (items D194-D241). They were produced by Crawford Productions and broadcast on Australian Television Network, which later became the Seven Network. The old weatherboard building, possibly dating from the 1860s, comprised a dwelling with a shop in the front room opening off a timber verandah deck which directly fronted the Main Road footpath. At the rear was a brick building of much later date which was for many years used for the bakery. Melbourne Legacy held an annual Christmas Party for Junior Legatees and Widows at Government House for many years. Junior Legatees were given gifts.
