Demonstrates how the SEC used painted signs to advise passengers about fare payment arrangements.Folded metal and painted "Pay as you Enter" sign used on Ballarat single truckers until 1971. Black lettering on a yellow front with a Yellow back. Sign has been manufactured to fit the timber holders that were provided on each side of each door. Newsletter - The Grapevine Cuttings by Rob Upson - 'JOHN BOYD WATSON', Apr 2008
Rob Upson became a volunteer at the Bendigo Visitor Centre in 1998. The Staff produced a monthly newsletter called ‘The Grapevine’. Being reasonably new to Bendigo, Rob became interested in its history and began writing articles to share with the volunteers. He called them ‘Grapevine Cuttings’ under the pen name of ‘Merlot’. Rob wrote about 90 articles over a period of 12 years until ‘The Grapevine’ was finally pruned and shutdown. Programme - Programme - Loyal Orange Institution of Victoria "True Blues" Lodge Annual Tea and Entertainment Programme, c. 1900
The Loyal Orange Institution of Victoria was established in 1843. As a society composed of Protestants, it works to support and defend the Protestant faith. The Institution is named in honour of King William III, Prince of Orange (1650-1702) and his achievements for civil and religious liberty. The first Orange Lodge in Victoria was founded in 1843, following a sectarian protest in Elizabeth Street Melbourne over the election of a Protestant candidate to the Legislative Council. By the 1890s there were 169 branches in Victoria, engaged in political lobbying for mainstream Protestant issues like temperance, Sunday observance, opposition to state aid for church schools, and opposition to any expansion of the political influence of Roman Catholics. The monthly meetings had an element of secrecy, as members wore regalia and followed a simple ritual. No Catholics could join. Women were admitted to Lodges in 1903.Single-sided sheet printed in blue ink containing program details. The Girl Guides had a stone hut taken from the site on a piece of land donated by the Keck family. It was situated beside the race between Keck's nursery and One Tree Hill. The site was named Somers Hill after Lady Somers, the chief commissioner of the Girl Guides, and the wife of the Governor of Victoria. Vandals completely destroyed the building in the 70s.
