Programme, Legacy Junior Plain English Speaking Competition 1991, 1991
From 1988 to 2021, Legacy held a public speaking contest for young secondary school students. It was initially called the Junior Plain English Speaking Award (JPESA) and later called Legacy Junior Public Speaking Award (LJPSA). Schools were eligible to send along up to 4 representatives to compete in a preliminary round. The winner in 1991 was Jamie Friebe from Warrnambool Secondary College. The 1991 final was held at the MMBW Theatrette. The following was taken from a programme in 1996: "The Award aim is to promote enhanced oral communication skills for 12-14 year old students and to help young people appreciate the ideals of Legacy - voluntary service, caring and comradeship - and the need for remembrance. It began in 1988 in the Melbourne area with the support of the Ministry of Education and The Plain English Foundation. Entries have grown from 24 in the 1988 competition to over 300 in schools across the State, plus greater numbers participating in the process of selecting four contestants from each school. In 1995, a successful Interstate Championship was held with contestants from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. On 11 November 1996 the first National final was held with contestants from six states."A programme of finalists and presenters from the Junior Plain Speaking contest that has been run by Legacy since 1988.Buff colour A4 card with blue printing as a programme of the speaking contest in 1991. legacy promotion, speaking contest, jpesa -

Audio (sub-item) - Sound recording, Marjorie West, Guest of the Week: Keith Glover, 13 December 2001
Marjorie West interviews Keith Glover, a broadcaster with 3LO, ABC, Radio Australia and RPH. He speaks of his early life in Sydney and his passion for radio, slightly delayed with his father insisting that he obtain a tertiary education beforehand. War interrupted this plan, and he joined the Army and became a 2 man act with Happy Hammond, as part of the Entertainment Unit which was part of the platoon. After service in PNG, he returned home to a contract with the ABC in Queensland later joined by his wife Gwyneth. In 1955, the family moved to Melbourne and he was chosen to be one the announcers for the Melbourne Olympic Games. A small stint as a newsreader for the ABC, a compere for the ABC dance band on Songs that Sold a Million, a televised version of a Glee club, Kindergarten of the Year radio show with Ann Dryer, the popular Mailbag program which generated hundreds of letters each week, and talking magazine narrator are among the many and varied jobs he did during his career. Ruyton Girls' School
Magazine, Ruyton Girls' School, The Ruytonian, 1979
In July 1909, a modest 12-page booklet was put together by members of the fledgling Old Ruytonians Association (ORA) and distributed to the Ruyton Girls' School community. It was one of their first projects, and their aim was to nurture continuing interest in the School among former and current students. They named it "The Ruytonian." At first, The Ruytonian was produced twice yearly, and always bore a plain cover with a simple name banner. Initially, it was the work of volunteer editors from the ORA, but in 1913 they handed the publication over to the first student editors, Esther Gibson and Lucy Tickell. Since that time, the style and content of The Ruytonian has continuously evolved. The biggest shifts occurred in 1942 when it transitioned to a yearly publication, and in 1969 when it moved to a larger A4 format with a cover image specifically selected for that year. The record has strong historic significance as it pertains to the fourth oldest girls' school in Victoria, Australia. Ruyton was founded in 1878 in the Bulleen Road, Kew, home of newly widowed Mrs Charlotte Anderson (now High Street South). Due to the age of the record dating back to 1979, we can infer it is one of the few remaining complete, intact and original examples of The Ruytonian from this period. Therefore, it can be considered an outstanding representation of its type, and is a reference example for research in early Victorian school history. The record's significance is further enhanced by its exceptionally well-documented provenance, having remained the property of Ruyton Girls' School since its production.Black and white publication printed on white, black and yellow paper. 60 pages.ruyton girls' school, the ruytonian, kew, old ruytonians association, yearbook, school, publication, girls school, junior school, senior school, journal, students, teacher -
