Book, Broom, Leonard, A blanket a year, 1973
Land rights, perhaps the best known of Aboriginal grievances, is bitterly expressed in 'All they give us now for our land is a blanket once a year'. Yet, as Broom and Jones show in this book, the Aborigines are disadvantaged in every way. No one knows who are Aborigines, how many there are, what jobs they hold, what education they have received. Yet, until this extraordinary ignorance is rectified, there is no basis for planning vital improvements. The authors stress the urgent need for public authorities to gather information on Aboriginal health, housing, employment, and education. Without this information no attempt to overcome the gross inequalities can hope to succeed. A Blanket a Year offers constructive professional help. It is vital reading for politicians, administrators, social workers, educationists, and for all fair-minded Australians.98 p. ; notes; tables; references; 23 cm.Land rights, perhaps the best known of Aboriginal grievances, is bitterly expressed in 'All they give us now for our land is a blanket once a year'. Federation University Historical Collection
Book, Ballarat School of Mines and Industries Handbook, 2004
The Ballarat School of Mines was a predecessor institution of Federation University. It was established in 1870 through initiatives of the Ballarat Mining Board which felt there was a need for such a institution because of the declining number of mine managers for the goldfields. Classes i Surveying, Mathematics and Chemistry began in 1871. With the decline in goldmining in the early part of the century, the direction of the College changed and broadened. The Art School was established in 1907, and in 1912 trade classes commenced in carpentry, fitting and turning, plumbing and telegraphy. In 1913 the Ballarat Junior Technical School became part of SMB. In 1970 the tertiary sector of the college was formed and became Ballarat College of Advanced Education when it separated from SMB in 1976. In the same year SMB became a regional College of Technical and Further Education (TAFE).White two ringed folder with an image of the Ballarat School of Mines on the cover. Book, Anne Paul, Walking the Kurrum Yallock (Plenty River), 25 July 2023
Kurrum Yallock - the Plenty River is Melbourne's third river. It is a defining feature of the region weaving its way through local suburbs and parklands. It is often hidden from general view, emerging at bridges and along its extensive trail network. While diminished since European settlement, the River provides an important environmental, wildlife corridor and recreational resource, along with many links to its settlement heritage. The Kurrum Yallock walks aim to guide people along the River Trail, while providing insight into key aspects of our recent history, an opportunity for reflection and an enhanced enjoyment of the River's special environment and landscape.birrarung, greensborough historical society, kurrum yallock, martins lane, plenty river, yallambie, yarra river -
