Ruyton Girls' School
Magazine, Ruyton Girls' School, The Ruytonian, 2011
In July 1909, a modest 12-page booklet was put together by members of the fledgling Old Ruytonians Association (ORA) and distributed to the Ruyton Girls' School community. It was one of their first projects, and their aim was to nurture continuing interest in the School among former and current students. They named it "The Ruytonian." At first, The Ruytonian was produced twice yearly, and always bore a plain cover with a simple name banner. Initially, it was the work of volunteer editors from the ORA, but in 1913 they handed the publication over to the first student editors, Esther Gibson and Lucy Tickell. Since that time, the style and content of The Ruytonian has continuously evolved. The biggest shifts occurred in 1942 when it transitioned to a yearly publication, and in 1969 when it moved to a larger A4 format with a cover image specifically selected for that year. The record has strong historic significance as it pertains to the fourth oldest girls' school in Victoria, Australia. Ruyton was founded in 1878 in the Bulleen Road, Kew, home of newly widowed Mrs Charlotte Anderson (now High Street South). Thus, the record can be used as a reference example for research into Victorian school history. The record's significance is further enhanced by its exceptionally well-documented provenance, having remained the property of Ruyton Girls' School since its production.Colour publication printed on white paper. 128 pages.Front Cover: THE RUYTONIAN / MONDAY 5 DECEMBER 2011 /ruyton girls' school, the ruytonian, kew, old ruytonians association, yearbook, school, publication, girls school, junior school, senior school, journal, students, teacher -

Melbourne Legacy
Poster, Australia Remembers. Legacy never forgets, 1995
This is an example of Melbourne Legacy promotional material. Legacy invited the leading guitarists, Phil and Tony Emmanuel to be Personality of the Year in 1995. They helped to promote Legacy, especially during Badge Week (see 00838). They were chosen as their father had served in the Air Force in New Guinea. When he died Legacy helped support their mother and her 6 children. They were releasing a new album in 1995, 'Terra Firma' and Legacy was given a special mention at each concert in Australia. Their album also featured a song called "The Last Post" which was dedicated to the men and women who gave their lives in times of war to keep Australia free. The main time of year for fundraising is September when Legacy holds 'Badge Week'. Often there is a celebrity who gives his or her time as 'Personality of the Year'. Examples are Sir Weary Dunlop (1992), Clive James (1993), the Scott family (1994), The Emmanuel brothers (1995), Daryl Somers (1996 and 1997), and Patsy Adam Smith (1994?). Was in a folder with marketing material from the 1990s to 2009, see items 01240 to 01258. The collection shows the types of marketing materials that were produced and the celebrities that were helping Legacy. An example of promotional material from the 1990s. Marketing material and photos were compiled and released to newspapers, also printed as brochures and sometimes as stickers and collection tin wrappers.Colour A4 promotional leaflet with a photo of Phil and Tony Emmanuel, a one page press release and an article from The Answer.Press release is titled 'The Emmanuels remember Legacy'.legacy promotion, badge appeal, legacy week, answer, press release -

Robin Boyd Foundation
Slide, Robin Boyd, 1956-1957
Robin Boyd developed a close friendship with the founder of the Bauhaus in Weimar Germany, Walter Gropius, who had moved to the USA in the 1930s. Through this connection, Boyd was invited to be the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Bemis Professor at the School in the North American academic year 1956-7. Robin and Patricia Boyd, with their youngest daughter Suzy, were based in Cambridge, Massachusetts for the year. Boyd gave some lectures at MIT and he was also invited to give lectures at many other universities, allowing him to travel widely within the USA, especially on the East Coast. This gave him the opportunity to meet architects like Frank Lloyd Wright, Eero Saarinen, Paul Rudolph and many others, and visit the offices of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, and places like Taliesin and the General Motors Technical Center Detroit. On the way home, the Boyds visited London, Berlin, Paris and Le Corbusier’s Ronchamp Chapel in France.Colour slide in a mount. Baker Dormitories, MIT, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. Slide - DIGGERS & MINING. GETTING THE GOLD, c1850s
Diggers & Mining. Getting the Gold. Slide: A shaft was commenced on each of these claims, but no attempt was made to sink to any depth. The party owning the claim would work elsewhere; but each, day, one of them - the ''shepherd'' - would shovel out one or two spadefuls of earth in order to preserve the party's right to the claim. This might go on for weeks, until a sinking party revealed the trend of the lead. When this was known . . . Markings: 53 994.LIF:4. Used as a teaching aid.hanimounteducation, tertiary, goldfields -
