Set of two newspaper clippings pasted onto a single sheet of paper with two Punch holes on the left hand side. First clipping from The Age, p4, dated May 31, 1971 of the setting up of the BTPS by a group of young people the previous day. Has photo of a group taking a photo of the driver (Mr. Les Bird) holding the trolley pole rope. Notes that they hope to keep six trams going, tram to be operated on a voluntary basis similar to Puffing Billy, many of the group were Melbourne students and that the Ballarat contingent was consciously small. The first cutting also has a small piece on the top edge, cut out from the same newspaper referring to the article on page 4, titled "TRAMS". (Source newspaper advised by Alan Bradley 5/7/02 and updated). Second is from The Courier, Ballarat, 8/6/1971, about a Murray River paddle steamer company writing to the City of Ballaarat offering to undertake a feasibility study and discuss with Council the operation of pleasure craft on Lake Wendouree, Also mentions the establishment of the BTPS and its proposals and its letter to Council. Opposite No. 11 Kerrie Crescent, (actually 71 Silver street), a 1948 Knox designed mudbrick, with a delightful inglenook fireplace. Additional bedrooms have been added on the top verandah; up the narrow stairs a concrete bath The 1993 Eltham Heritage Tour was enjoyed by a busload of members of the Historical Society on a fine, calm day, Sunday May 23rd. Between 10.00 am and 4.30 pm, except for a brief lunch stop at the Eltham Living and Learning Centre, members passed about thirty places of local interest and others recommended for the Historic Buildings Register and the Register of the National Estate. Copy of a newspaper photo titled To Make Bend Safer. Photo shows a tram passing a newsagent shop. On the right is a dilapidated picket fence. Allso hand written paper on one side is: Approx 1966 ? One of the last trams No 18 to run up Main Street of Long Gully (Bond Street) Now known as Eaglehawk Road. On Left - Post Office - now Gents Hairdresser & Rose of No 3 Australia Hotel. On Right - Les & Marie Norris Newsagency & Mixed Business. 2 story building was Commercial Hotel. No 26 Tram was the last to run between Bendigo, Long Gully & Eaglehawk. Still running as a Tourist. On the other side is written: One building has already been demolished and the proprietor of the Newsagency & mixed business Mr. L W Norris, will also demolish and rebuild further back from the road in preparation for eventual re-alignment of the Long Gully bend by the Country Roads Board. The Board declared an alignment some years ago for the corner - a severe traffic hazard - but, the assistant Divisional Engineer, Mr G Marshallsea said yesterday the Board had no immediate plans.
