Built in England by Leyland and cost $32,000 each. Bus driver Bruce McRae of Thornbury said easier to handle, very manoeuvrable in heavy traffic and have very acute turning circle. On one face are five separate items regarding the fundraising including one by the Secretary of the committee Mr W Sewell, a donation by Mr M B John of John's Valves, a note regarding a half-holiday for schools, Friday 28/7 for the fair. On the reverse side is part of a cutting regarding this event, the boxing and wrestling and a cheque from Broadway Park where a greyhound meeting was held on 15 July. These two items have been trimmed. Yields information about the accidents and derailments in Ballarat and collisions with vehicles that resulted in injuries to the driver and major damage to vehicles or passengers.Newspaper clipping from The Courier, 16/4/54 and hand written notes on the collision between with a semi trailer and tram No. 37. Has details of the recovery using tram 21. Newspaper cutting gives details of those trammies involved, Dave Kellett and Herbert Ward. Collided with a semi carrying wool bales. Wal notes the tram was scrapped in 1955. Second cutting notes a derailment of a tram at the junction of Main Road and Victoria St. Noted the delays occurring. He served as an Anglican curate at St Stephen’s Church, Port Kembla (1941-42), and as an assistant at the Missions to Seamen, Sydney (1942). An honorary curate (1942-46) at St John’s Church, Rockdale, he married Beryl Ruth Knox, daughter of the rector, there on 3 October 1942. On 16 September he had been appointed as a temporary chaplain in the Royal Australian Navy, an event which he described as the determining factor in his future ministry. He served in HMAS Australia (1942-44) and in shore establishments before being demobilised in February 1946. In 1953 Craven-Sands joined the Missions to Seamen, Sydney, as senior chaplain, leading a team who worked for the spiritual and social welfare of seamen. The Old Scotch Collegians' Dramatic Society was formed in 1933. This performance celebrated the 100th anniversary of the College in 1951.Arthur Henry Dear was an employee of the City of Kew, acting as Hall Keeper of the Kew Recreation Hall in Wellington Street, and later the new Kew City Hall in Cotham Road. The Arthur Dear Collection contains memorabilia - tickets, programmes, invitations - as well as his identification badge. Items in the collection dates from the 1940s to the 1960s. Programme for the Old Scotch Centenary production of Off the Record by Ian Hay and Stephen King-Hall, performed in 1951 at the Union Theatre, Melbourne. Banner
The letters of the completed banner were made by different churches within in the presbytery and spelled a sentence, presumably "BUILD YOUR CHURCH LORD!" Orbost was one of the churches that had the finished banner on display. One of 24 small banners with tabs at the top of each for hanging on a rod. 19 have large blue letters appliqued on them. Twenty two of the banners are roughly square and two are smaller and oblong. Three have no letters and are used as spacers in the four word sentence that the letters make.
