This popular shop in Marysville was originally opened in the old Barton house by Frank and Val Pryor in 1995. The lolly shop premises were destroyed, along with most of the buildings in Marysville, in the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires. The then owner, Julia Harris, reopened the lolly shop in an old shipping container until the premises was rebuilt. A newspaper article regarding the selling of The Crossways Historic Inn in Marysville. The Crossways was built in the early 1920s and is the oldest building in Marysville. The Crossways historic inn survived the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires thanks to the efforts of its c-owner Greg Cherry and, in the days after the fires, provided a much-needed refuge to the Marysville community and firefighters. Newspaper clipping titled: “Brewery Truck Rips Tram: 2 die” The Sun Friday August 7 1970 Photos and text “Tram crowd hit by casks” Queens Parade Two passengers died when tram and brewery truck crashed at Clifton Hill (Thursday August 8 1970). Twenty-two people were injured, two seriously. Semi-trailer owned by Carlton and United Breweries. Tram driver Graham Barry McPhee, 31, was injured. Semi-trailer travelling along Queen’s Pde towards the city. No 88 tram bound for East Preston was just completing a turn from Smith St into Queen’s Pde. Six ambulances took 12 people to St Vincent’s and Royal Melbourne Hospitals. Police charged truck driver, 39, on two counts of manslaughter, and also charged driving under the influence of alcohol and exceeding .05. Copy of the front page of the Australasian Sketcher No. 58 - Vol. V, dated Saturday, September 1, 1877. The top third of the page has the name and decorative artwork. The bottom two thirds has two sketch drawings of fancy ball characters. On the left are two ladies, dressed in long dresses and hats and a man dressed in very early dress and a hat. The right hand side shows a man with very long hair sitting on a box with old time clothing with long leggings, bows on his shoes and a wide brimmed hat. He also has a sword and broad carry strap. Scholar's monthly ticket for use by under 15 years students. Has form number "TYE 3-570" in top left hand corner. Space for an expiry date to be stamped on the ticket and name, address and school of the student. The 1966 Schedule of Fares and Charges shows these tickets. See Reg Item 6870 for samples of unused tickets. All issued to the donor Lee Carrigg. Also issued in Bendigo. Yields information and demonstrates the tickets used to for Scholar's or students to travel on the trams in Ballarat during the mid 1960's.
