There is also a map of the town and a large number of advertisements for local businesses. Back to Warrnambool celebrations were an important event on the social calendar and were run over a number of years in the town. This program is one glimpse into the city and its people in 1930. Ephemera - MERLE HOULDEN COLLECTION: SMALL GOLDEN WEDDING HORSESHOE, 1942
Golden satin ribbon gathered over a cardboard horseshoe shape. Light cream embroidered ribbon, 68 cms long, forms a loop, and is attached to the horseshoe with a bow. A floral arrangement of two leaves and five small "berries" decorates the horseshoe. Merle's Grandparents, Alice and Charles Geuer were married in 1892, celebrating their Wedding in 1942. Penleigh Boyd, Robin and Patricia Boyd's son, writes “Prior to 1950 Robin, like most other amateur or hobby photographers, took black and white printed photographs. The oldest slides date from 1950 when Robin and Patricia travelled to Europe on Robin’s Robert Haddon Travelling Scholarship.” In 1948 Robin Boyd was awarded ‘joint first place’ in the Robert Haddon competition for his design of Mildura art gallery. The scholarship helped fund their first overseas trip. Robin and Patricia were passengers on the Greek ship “Cyrenia” departing in May 1950, passing through the Suez Canal and landing in Genoa five weeks later. For six months, they travelled extensively throughout Europe (predominantly driving themselves) - France, Italy, United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Spain.Colour slide in a mount.
