Manical Mechanicals was owned and operated by Marg and Alistair Mackie in Murchison Street in Marysville in Victoria. It offered a display of various engineering wonders of the world all made from Meccano. There was also a selection of models, toys and other items that all moved. The Meccano models were all built by Doug Wilson who lived in Wangaratta in Victoria. In 1937, when he was 12, Doug won first prize at Brunswick Technical School for making a Meccano model aeroplane with three rotating propellers. Newspaper article and typed copy of same, detailing the fatal accident that occurred at the mine on the 22nd January 1953, in which Herbert Hunter of Kangaroo Flat was killed. ' Hunter was working at No 16 level at a depth of 1270 feet from the surface and about 500 feet south from the shaft when a large piece of stone , estimated to wrigh about one ton, broke away. The first local government authority for Marong was the Marong Road District (an early form of single-purpose local government), which was proclaimed on 19 August 1860. Its boundary was altered twice in 1862 and on 12 December 1864 it was re designated as a shire. It absorbed Raywood Borough in 1915, and was proclaimed a Rural City in 1990.
