Journal, Students Society of the R.V.I.A (Melbourne), Lines, 1942
Robin Boyd was the editor and designer of this volume. Lines was an annual journal of the Students Society of the R.V.I.A. This is a very rare copy. Most articles have a byline, but the ones without are perhaps by Robin Boyd. There is such an article 'An Australian Architecture?" (2 pages) which is perhaps by Boyd. The journal also contains an article 'The Democratic City' by architect Dr Ernst Fuchs and an article 'An Australian School of Painting?' by John Reed, Deputy President Contemporary Art Society, founder of Heidi with his wife Sunday Reed.rvia, architecture, ernst fuchs, roy simpson, john reed, walsh st library -

Journal - Diary, Diary of Augustus Bostock 1881-1890, Circa 1881
Augustus Bostock was the 9th child of Robert & Rachael Bostock of Vaucluse Epping Forest, Van Diemen’s Land. He was only 4 years old when his mother died. He was inspired by his father to seek his fortune in the Western District of Victoria. He arrived around 1850. He married Margaret Aitkin in July 1865. Augustus owned several properties in the district and leased others. He sat on the court of Warrnambool, Mortlake or Hexham as required. He resided at Marramook in Hawkesdale and later moved to Vaucluse in Hopetoun Road Warrnambool, where he died in 1920 at the age of 87. He was involved in many aspects of life in the Western District, racing, cricket, and social activities to name a few. This diary shows the daily entries over a long period of time with activities ranging from fencing, visiting neighbours and weather details. It mentions many local people and many properties he visited. Augustus Bostock along with a number of his brothers was one of the earliest pioneers in the Western District of Victoria. This diary sheds considerable light onto the life of Augustus and people of his era. There is a wealth of information on a range of topics relating to early life in Warrnambool and district.Brown stippled cloth cover with brown corners and spine in leather. Purple and green patterned paper inside front and back covers. Pages are handwritten in black ink. Sticker inside front cover: J Hider Opposite the Post Office Warrnambool. Part of the 'Mann' collection in the Wodonga Historical Society, used for accounting in the J. Mann & Sons General Store in High Street, Wodonga in 1934-35. J. Mann and Sons was first established as a farm produce store in 1921. The range of products was extended in the 1930s and included groceries and hardware, as well as the first petrol bowser in Wodonga outside the store. After WWII, the premises were extended and the range of products continued to increase. In the 1960s the Mann Family opened a new supermarket in Wodonga, in addition to the hardware business, providing steel, plumbing and industrial supplies, and they employed over 100 people at one stage. With changes in the retail industry, the Mann Family sold the main hardware business to Bunnings and the produce business to the Kelly brothers in 2006. Local significance due to its use in the J. Mann & Sons General Store in High St, Wodonga and association with the prominent Mann family.
