Photos of the launch of Legacy Week in 1991. The guest speaker was Sir Zelman Cowan, a former Governor General of Australia. The launch was in the Crest International Hotel in St Kilda on 3 September 1991. Sir Zelman spoke movingly on the work of Legacy and on the dramatic world events: the Gulf War; the reunification of Germany; the changes within the Soviet Union and his speech was warmly received by all who attended. The main time of year for fundraising is September when Legacy holds 'Badge Week'. Often there is guest speaker and another celebrity who gives his or her time as 'Personality of the Year'. Was in a scrapbook of photos spanning 1987 to 1991. Black and white photograph of CW5 684, route 70 outbound in Batman Ave. Ray Pearson's photo listing dates the photo as 1937. The CW5 tramcar was effectively a W5 tram using Brill 22E bogies or trucks as an economy measure during the mid-1930s. The trams were underpowered, with MMTB No. 15 bogies being fitted in 1956. Beginning of roll of film Most likely at (Kangaroo Ground-St Andrews Road) “Rymers” Corner – shifting Hawthorn hedges on Tompkins property August 1960Record of various Shire of Eltham infrastructure works undertaken during the period of 1952-1962 involving bridge and road reconstruction projects, sometimes with Eltham Shire Council Project Reference numbers quoted. It was during this period that a number of significant improvements were made to roads and new bridges constructed within the shire that remain in place as of present day (2022). In many situations, the photos provide a tangible visible record of infrastructure that existed throughout the early days of the Shire. Two colour photographs showing a log cabin amongst trees. It was owned by the Edebohls family. The walls are made of logs, the gable ends have wooden shingles, and there is a more recent tin roof with the original shingle roof underneath the tin. There is a verandah on the downhill side of the house. Trees surround the house. The house is opposite Kerrs Park and is believed to be the oldest house left in Narre Warren East. -

The success of a significant wages dispute with Phoenix Foundry led to reconsideration of building a Trades Hall in Ballarat. In 1886, the present site at 24 Camp Street, Ballarat was agreed upon and land was granted to the committee in the name of the Ballarat Trades Hall and Literary Institute. The photograph depicts laying of the Ballarat Trades Hall foundation stone in1887. This photograph is part of a series taken at the Willsmere (Kew) Mental Hospital. The photographs were gifted to the Kew Historical Society in 2018 by Rosemary Barnes. The photos had been in the possession of her former husband, Dr Fred Stamp, the last medical superintendent of the hospital. In 2019, the photographs were transferred to the State Archives as Permanent Government Records, as the Society is only entitled as a Class-B Place of Deposit to hold Temporary Government Records. The Society was permitted to keep and publish a digital copy of each photograph. Many of the photographs include information on the reverse about individuals or locations. Where this is the case, these have been published here as images that can be viewed in the picture carousel. View from Grace Mitchell's shop at the corner of Mount Pleasant Road and Main Road. Grace Mitchell was probably best known for her Eltham shop at the corner of Mt Pleasant Road and Main Road. Grace's memories covered many local identities who were patrons of her shop between 1954 and 1971. From the elevated position of her shop and home Grace was able to view a varied passing parade of Eltham events from ERSILAC, Easter and Eltham Festival parades passing on their way to Eltham Lower Park, circuses in Wingrove Park (then Bremner’s Reserve), roadworks and other happenings.
