Document - Instruction, Ballarat Tramway Museum (BTM), "S-6-A Electric Compressor Governor", 2009
Yields information about a compressor governor that is fitted to some Ballarat Trams, Westinghouse. Two A4 photocopied sheets, giving a side elevation of the Westinghouse "S-6-A Electric Compressor Governor" and the setting or the regulation and adjustment, installation and maintenance of the Governor. Commonly known as a "Bettleback" Governor. Dates from 1916. See Reg Item 703 for a MMTB drawing. WAD’s thoughts on setting Beetle back compressor Governors – 19/12/2009. Refer to instructions as well. Set both valves to approximately the same tension or thread length If when pumping up, both valves start to chatter, screw down the back valve further. When working satisfactorily, but pressures not right, that is, the governor is cutting out without valves chattering or with excessive range or pressure too high. Adjust the front valve until the desired cut out pressure arrived at. The cap must be on this valve for it to work. Adjust the back valve to adjust the cutting in setting, screw down for high cut in pressure. Adjust both as necessary to obtain your desires! And best of luck, it can be done, but is frustrating!!!!!trams, tramways, governors, westinghouse, air compressors, instructions -

Document - Response to Circular to "Fellow Licensees" by Harold Cuming, 16.06.1966
Bob (Herman) Hymans (a former member of the Royal Netherlands Navy) was born in Bloemendaal, Holland on 30th September 1922. During World War II he fought against the Japanese in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) and was imprisoned in Changi and on the Burma Railway. After gaining qualifications as a Ski Instructor, Bob arrived in Falls Creek in July 1950. Working as an Instructor and Supervisor at Bogong Lodge, Bob decided his future was in accommodation. He was successful in negotiating an indenture for land from the State Electricity Commission (SEC). It took Bob two years to build his Grand Coeur Chalet but, tragically, it was burned down in August 1961. Bob also built the first Chairlift in Australia. This was a single chairlift and the structure was built from wooden electricity poles. He was constantly full of new ideas and proposals for the village. Bob Hymans die on 7th July 2007. This Collection of documents and letters tells the story of Bob's endeavours to develop Falls Creek into the ski village it is today. This item is significant because it documents actions taken by the Falls Creek Tourist Area Management Committee in their role overseeing the Tourist Area.A circular issued to Lessees and Licensees in response to a circular issued by Haroldi Cuming which the Management Committee believed contained erroneous and misleading information. Although it was agreed that Mr Cuming was entitled to his opinion, the Management Committee held the opinion that his circular presented information which was diametrically opposite to the true situation.falls creek tourist area management committee, falls creek administration, harold cuming -

Photograph, Kew Bowling Club, Kew Bowling Club Winners of VBA “C” Pennant Season, 1924-26
Sports Clubs in Kew in the final decades of the 19th century and in the early 20th century were often umbrella organisations with facilities for a number of sports. Typically in Kew, this included teams in lawn bowls, tennis and croquet. The Kew Bowling Club was formed in 1880 while the privately owned Auburn Heights Recreation Club was opened in 1904. By 1998, the two Clubs decided to amalgamate at the Auburn Heights site in Barkers Road, forming the Kew Heights Sports Club. The combined club was itself taken over by the Melbourne Cricket Club in 2012 becoming MCC Kew Sports Club. In 2017 MCC Kew closed and its landholding was subsequently sold to Carey Baptist Grammar School. Both the Kew and Auburn Heights Clubs assembled important collections. These historically significant and large collections were donated to the Society in 2020. The collections include manuscripts, pictures, trophies, plans, honour boards etc. References Barnard FGA 1910, 'Sports and Pastimes' in Jubilee History of Kew Victoria: Its origin & progress 1803-1910. Reeve S 2012, City of Boroondara: Thematic Environmental History, p.216.The combined collections of the four sporting clubs making up the collection number hundreds of items that are historically significant locally. They are also significant to the sporting history of the greater Melbourne area and to the sports of lawn bowls and tennis in Australia in the 19th and 20th centuries. The collection illuminates two of the Victorian historic themes - 'Building community life' through forming community organisations and 'Shaping cultural and creative life' by participating in sport and recreation.Framed and glazed original silver gelatin photograph of the Winners of the VBA “C” Pennant Season 1924-26. kew bowling club - wellington street - kew (vic), clubs - lawn bowls - kew (vic) -

Mission to Seafarers Victoria
Photograph - Framed montage, Arthouse - Picture Framing & Gallery, Light of the World, 2013
THE CHAPLAINCY Although fostered by the Anglican Church since 1906, the work of the Mission to Seafarers’ is inter- denominational and is not limited by the physical space of its buildings. When the old Melbourne wharves and their moorings were still in use, chaplains would also visit ships to look after the welfare of those who could not visit the Mission. Today, the Mission’s ‘Ship Visitors’ provide a similar service. The Flinders Street central complex was purpose built to meet with seafarers’ needs: “...the first thing a sailor would see before the traps and temptations of the city would be the Institute and its comfortable rooms.” (The Argus, ND). Today, the Mission continues to offer its comfortable, safe spaces and a friendly ear to seafarers, alongside other services that extend well beyond those traditionally offered - including TV, phone cards, and access to the internet. This window, titled ‘Light of the World’, was installed in 1935 in memory of a former ‘M.V. Manunda’ captain and represents chaplaincy support to the seafaring community.Reflections of the Sea was an exhibition of 10 framed montage of photographs from the mission's archive collection showcasing 10 stained glass windows from the St Peter chapel. This exhibition curated by Georgia Melville and Catherine McLay, and funded by PROV and Creative Victoria, was displayed in the World Trade Centre Wharf Gallery in June July 2013 and toured to Queenscliff Maritime Museum. The photographs of the windows were taken by scientific photographer Justine M. Philip. his frame is showcasing the memorial window to Captain Robert Sunter and a photograph of a chaplains conférence in the 1950s.Framed and mounted on black cardboard of black and white and colour reproductions from the MTSV collection for the exhibition Reflections of the Sea with brief label signageon label: Taken in the courtyard at Flinders Street in the early 1950s, this photo shows eighteen individuals, fifteen of whom are wearing white clerical collars, illutsrating the integral relationship between the Mission to Seafarers ministry and the Anglican Churchreflections of the sea, georgia melville, exhibition, 2013, world trade centre, wtc, captain robert sunter, chaplaincy, conference, mv manunda, creative victoria, prov, mission to seafarers, stained glass windows, justine m. philip, flinders street, catherine mclay, arthouse -
