An example of badges issued by Legacy for fundraising during the Legacy Appeal and Badge Week. The donation value is $50. The date is approximately 2015 as it was still for sale in 2018. It is in the collection to show the modern equivalent of the older style badges. This style recreates high donation value badges from the 1960s. The badge of Legacy is the Torch and Wreath of Laurel. John J. Huntly appears to have been the only licensee of the Royal Oak Hotel, built in 1858. He was a Councillor of the Municipality of Belfast at the time and later became the Secretary of the newly formed Minhamite Shire in 1872. By 1861 D. Smith appears as the licensee of the now named Commercial Hotel. In 1877 it was offered for sale—the building described as follows “Built of bluestone with slate roof, having a frontage to Bank street of 106 feet, 6 inches. Accommodation consists of twelve bedrooms, eight sitting rooms, bathroom, bar and cellar and detached kitchen also of bluestones, with outside offices. Around this time beside its usual business the hotel had various rooms for visiting doctors and a dentist. Dr. Berncastle, who was associated with the Sydney Eye Infirmary, performed several operations there on those suffering from cataracts. It was the meeting place for the Port Fairy Freemasons, before their Lodge was built in James street, and all the local sporting clubs, at one time or another. The veranda was added in 1900. The name Royal Oak was restored this century, but the name Commercial Hotel can still be seen in the leadlight window over the front entrance. The hotel still continues serving patrons with beverages and meals but no beds these days. There is also an addition to the building, as seen in the bottom illustration— a bottle shopBlack and white sketch photographed Line drawing of the Commercial hotelhotel, building, commercial, oak and anchor, inn, pub, d.smith -

Hughes" stamped on the top of the badge and on the bottom the manufacturer's name "Stokes" in a reverse stamp. Indicates badge issued to Councillor D. Hughes for the year 1906. A similar badge was sold on ebay for $US 49.95 December 2007 - paperwork on file. Images on file - images i3 and i4. Was issued to Councillor C. R. Brokenshire. E-mail from Alan Bradley, re additional item 29/1/2012 - See Reg Item - The Electric Supply Co issued the passes to councillors of the City of Ballaarat for free tram rides. I don't know whether passes also went to Ballarat East and Sebastopol councillors as well. In Bill Scott's "Last tram at 11" on page 41 is a 1912 poem 'The councillor's farewell to his tramway pass". The ESCo tried a few economy measures at that time. Passes for councillors were withdrawn in 1912, as were free passes for employees "owing to our financial position". Employees were still allowed on free in uniform, but charged one-third of fare when off duty. In 1913 one-man operation came in." For another example see Reg item 5239. Badge, K.G.Luke, W.B.B.C, 1951
This badge, a good quality one, was produced for the year 1951 and has been in our collection for many years. However it is unclear what the W.B.B.C. stands for – Warrnambool Baseball Club, Warrnambool Basketball Club, Warrnambool Bias Bowls Club??? It may not be a local badge at all. This badge is retained with the hope that someone in the future may be able to tell us what it signifies. This is a round metal badge with blue and gold lettering on a white background and a decorative upper edging. There is a number inside a small red circle at the top of the badge. The badge has a metal clip at the back. W.B.B.C. 51 history of warrnambool, warrnambool baseball club, warrnambool bias bowls club, warrnambool basketball club -

Letter - KANGAROO FLAT GOLD MINE COLLECTION: FILE NOTE RE CENTRAL DEBORAH TOURIST MINE
Two page file note by J.O. Reynolds, Western Mining Corporation, 23rd December, 1980. 'R. Wright, Bendigo Office' is written on top right hand corner of document. File note details a meeting held between WMC and Bendigo Trust regarding the development of the Central Deborah Tourist Mine, where WMC would fund a $5,900 feasibility study to develop the mine as a tourist destination. It notes that there has been confusion re the insistence of WMC that the funding relates only to its purpose as a tourist destination and does not include ore haulage and the stamp battery. WMC stated emphatically that it did not envisage using the Central Deborah surface works for its own purposes.bendigo, gold mining, central deborah gold mine, bendigo, gold mining, goldfield, central deborah gold mine, western mining corporation, bendigo trust, bendigo mining nl, j.o. reynolds
