This photograph is part of the Caulfield Historical Album 1972. This album was created in approximately 1972 as part of a project by the Caulfield Historical Society to assist in identifying buildings worthy of preservation. The album is related to a Survey the Caulfield Historical Society developed in collaboration with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and Caulfield City Council to identify historic buildings within the City of Caulfield that warranted the protection of a National Trust Classification. Principal photographer thought to be Trevor Hart, member of Caulfield Historical Society. Most photographs were taken between 1966-1972 with a small number of photographs being older and from unknown sources. All photographs are black and white except where stated, with 386 photographs over 198 pages.https://vhd.heritagecouncil.vic.gov.au/places/35575 From: Glen Eira Heritage Management Plan (1996) by Andrew Ward and Associates Significance: "Kynaston" is locally important as a large late Victorian villa residence, demonstrating something of the lifestyle to which a senior government bureaucrat could aspire during the late nineteenth century boom period. The design of the verandah, though defaced, is unusual in Caulfield and, therefore, important. A substantial late Victorian stuccoed Bool11 style villa residence with tower surmounting the entrance porch, fluted columns to the ground level verandah and parapeted balcony over, now built in with a sympathetic addition at the north-west corner. By 1950 Hotel Bellfield was owned by Mr and Mrs McMullin In June 1952 the staff quarters at the rear of the main building was destroyed by fire. These two motels were built in the 1960’s on the eastern outskirts of Warrnambool on the corner of the old Princes Highway and Simpson St. They were both built around 1960. The Turn In was originally known as Freeland’s Turn In. The Hopkins River, later the Riverside Motel, was demolished in around 2000. This photograph provides a view of Warrnambool as it was beginning the expansion on the East side of Warrnambool. Souvenir Teaspoon featuring Ballarat tram No. 33 in a Square inset at the top of the tea spoon, contained within a plastic case. The teaspoon made by Perfection Plate, of the Galaxy style or type. The teaspoon made by Perfection Plate, of the Caprice style or type. The case is clear plastic, hinged on the left hand side, with a clip on the right hand side and wrapped in plastic. Inside and on top of the case for display purposes is a folded sheet of cardboard, printed with a decorative design on the spoon side and a short item about Australia - the island continent. On the base of the item is details of the manufacturer, and web site. The teaspoon is silver plated, with the tram in a picture 22mm round. Tea spoon is 116mm long x 25mm wide. These photographs were taken in and around Falls Creek by Samuel Keith Pearce and printed for him as a foldout postcard by NuColor Vue. The postcards state they were printed for S. K. Pearce Pty. Ltd of Tawonga and Mount Beauty. Samuel Keith Pearce was born on 24 June 1917 in Armadale, Victoria. By the late 1940s he owned the Mt Beauty Supermarket, Newsagency, Drapery and Hardware store at Mount Beauty and also a store at Tawonga in partnership with his brother Gordon Cathew Pearce. For some time, they operated as Pearce Brothers. In the early 1960s Keith also opened a mini mart In Falls Creek. As well as being a keen photographer and an astute businessman, Keith Pearce was a well-known identity in the Kiewa Valley, making many contributions to the development of the area over a long period. This included serving as a member of the Bright Shire Council for many years. He worked hard to promote the interests of the Upper Kiewa Valley. As a sign of recognition and appreciation for his contribution to the community, the park opposite the grocery store in Mount Beauty was named the SK Pearce Gardens in his honour.
